definitely, most people intuitively know basketball and even if they dont, the rules are extremely simple for most part.

I think a problem in making the NBA or basketball super successful as opposed to just globalized, is that there are very few countries that are super passionate about a sport. soccer craze gets europe and latin america. there are countries crazy about baseball. bball tho, its very limited besides shyt like turkey (but then turkish fans are crazy about everything tbh). people like but dont LOVE the game itself I feel like.

thats probably why NBA always chose to market through superstar power. them asians can barely hoop but they love themselves some bean or bron

I bet the NBA could blow up in Africa personally, I was watching some shyt on al Jazeera earlier about that one high school scout in Philly linking with players in Africa to get them to American high schools through basketball. I definitely see basketball as a sport that could take off if it were invested in, the problem is I don't know how cool the NBA is with letting other basketball leagues flourish in the world. I suppose it wouldn't be an issue tho, but Africa could be a huge pipeline of talent for the NCAA and NBA and provide opportunity to people in fukked up situations.

So teams being able to keep their players would be a shyt show? That would be bad for the league. They way the salary cap is constructed was meant to stick it to the players. Owners give no fukks because they know fans will still pay to go to games, pay for merchandise and watch it on tv. The product today is ass. The ONLY thing that has saved todays NFL is all of the rules changes which increases offensive output. I mean where else can you have a 5000 yard QB not go to the playoffs.

Free agency has made it to the point where you can't even root for favorite players on your team because you know eventually he will be playing for someone else.

your line of thinking is naive. instead of good teams sometimes not being able to keep their players, small market teams with shytty history like the browns will NEVER keep their players since a rich ass owner of a good team will pay him as much, and cleveland would have to overpay by a ton.

and the offensive output being inflated is actually a bad thing. not just for someone like me who loves defense, but in the long run, even your regular joe will realize that games are becoming too much arena league-like

oh they know it for sure it helps the league. they just act like they are above it. like only low brow people doing illegal shyt are betting on games. it helped build the popularity of the league. the monday night football game became a huge deal partially because bookies used to always settle up on tuesdays. but they will eventually back down from threatening and filing lawsuits when states want to legalize gambling, and will instead embrace it. jersey would have legalized sports betting if the NFL wasnt leading the high and mighty charge against it last year

Not letting salaries of players no longer with the team count against your current cap.

If there was no salary cap then obviously the NFL would restrict player movements. Once Free agency started in the early 90's a salary cap followed soon after. Before that players stayed with their teams. The difference with todays NFL and unlike the 70's and 80's is revenue is a lot higher so teams can afford to properly compensate their players. Free agency has basically created a market where talent is over valued. How many bad contracts to teams create by signing free agents on the strength of what the "current market" is for that position? Most players get cut or traded before honoring half the years they signed for. The way the owners have set it up now has made it more about getting money and less about winning. To me the overall product has been hurt ( I don't care how many points teams score).

Remember all the hubub that happen when Barry decided to quit 10 years in his career, fast forward you have guys like Glen Coffee,Rolando McClain,etc who have quit early on in their careers. I actually dont think talent is overvalued currently, besides the qb position. the non-guaranteed contracts actually enable lesser teams to compete within a short turnaround time.

the contract gets cut or traded not because the talent was overvalued, but because the value of such contract is not that high !
theres not much repercussion for giving a big nonguaranteed contract in the nfl, because you can just cut the player if he doesnt perform

again, all this room for error is what allows teams to rise up instead of bad contracts drowning them to the bottom of the sea.
