Yeah I think they need a total restructure on how they monetize the music. Imo datpiff pretty much been fleecing artists. They give them the mixtape for free and datpiff gets all the viewers and ad revenue.

Even with the thresh hold lowered it would still be out of reach for most wack rappers. Ying Yang twins went plat, Will Smith, SOULJA BOY, Chingy wack rappers been around and still will be but they damn sure won't do big numbers ever again in today's climate. Other genres aren't selling either.

Maroon 5 will be the number one album this week at 145k, that's less than Schoolboy Q's first week sales. Granted pop albums tend to have more longevity. But think about it Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry both have only sold one million copies of their albums in a year. That's not alot of records for the top 10 singles they had on those albums. A decade ago those albums would have sold 3 times that.

I make it my business to by they albuma dn go to their shows. Also if you move the certs down they can get advertised as a gold or plat sellin artist so that will only help them. Even if people don't care about sales the label does for obvious reasons but with today's downloading internet era it's not like the old days where they can sign an unheard of dude and he'll sell amilli. As long as the artist sells enough to keep makin music and stay afloat, tour and keep makin music I'm good.
