At this point he's still a good defender by default but he hasn't got the athleticism to be that guy anymore
lol 32 year old LeBron is still the 2nd most athletic man in the league behind Westbrook. You must've missed the Dunk Contest/40 Yard Dash that was the Cavs-Raptors series. If he doesn't have the "athleticism" to be a good defender anymore then I guess there are no good defenders in the NBA period.

And to answer OP: In the Toronto series DeMar often looked unstoppable but whenever LeBron actually got to guard him with no switches or bullshyt he was always smothered. If they commit to putting LeBron on an island with Klay at certain points in the game he's getting strapped. Klay's garbage handle can't shake anyone. But they can't do it for too long.

Exactly what i was thinking! Bron still got it when he focuses on defense, his athleticism is otherworldly still.

if you switch bron on different players as you mentioned...you're relying on lower tier defenders to pick up everyone else he isn't defending
Love isn't actually a bad iso defender once set, just horrible at reading rotations and switches so always at least half a step late to his man. His lack of lateral quickness is never so much a problem as his bad body positioning, which has been a lot better than it was last year.

Thompson is a good defender

JR has surprised people with his dedication to it.

Richard Jefferson is a good defender.

Channing Frye isn't a bad defender.

Delly is a good defender.

Shumpert is typically a good defender.

There's evidence that Kyrie can turn it on if pushed but we'll see.

They're actually a lot less weak across the board than they get credit for.

Sure but comparing 09 Lebron to the current is a marked step down in that regard.
Meant more the stamina than the athleticism. Easy enough to exert himself like that if they're outscoring their opponents to the degree they were.

And it shows in his play. He's taken possessions off more than we've become used to seeing. It's probably a good thing that he's comfortable pacing himself but I guess we'll see.

:beli:.....Niccas bringing up Miami like Chris Bosh didn't make that whole defense work. Bosh and a locked in Wade are two of the best defenders at their position in the history of the league. Chalmers was also a beast defensively. Kyrie and Love are about to see high PNR in their nightmares when they sleep after this series. Comparing what the Heat did to Rose and the challenges the Cavs face with the Warriors are two completely different scenarios.

Bingo......lebron was put on Demar at certain points and the Raptors would run picks to get Lebron off of him. Without the picks Lebron had him dead to rights.

I expect in the 4th the Cavs will put Lebron on either klay or Thompson to limit their output.

Curry will get his but he will have to play defense on either kyrie or JR there is no hiding him this series.

Oh and when delly comes in and Curry guards him the Cavs will run that damn near unstoppable delly and lebron pick and roll. The Cavs will not and I repeat will not allow curry to chill on defense.

True but he paces himself like all great players do as they get older and just turn the defensive pressure up.in the 4th qtr. MJ did it in his last 3 peat years and so did Kobe do it in his last 2 championship years.

Yep the thing is if folks been paying attention to the east playoffs....lebron is now the facilitator and the defensive anchor while kyrie and the rest of the guys do the heavy lifting on the offensive end and rebounding.

This was the vision when this team was put together. The key was making sure Lebron didn't have to do all that Superman shyt like in Miami. That shyt ain't sustainable as you get older.
