I thought Shaq was a horrible free throw shooter, but DeAndre Jordan is shooting 37%

most terrible free throw shooters do. shaq used to hit 80% of his free throws in practice, ben wallace couldn't miss free throws in practice either. once gametime comes that mental block hits.

They also don't practice them right. Shooting 200 straight free throws in practice is pretty useless. It's a lot easier to replicate form and gives them a false sense of confidence that they're improving.

In a game situation, they won't get to just stand there and shoot 50 in a row. They'll shoot 2, run up and down the court 20 times, then shoot 2 more. They need to be practicing their shot all the time just like other players do so its a natural situation to walk into.

I think it's a combination of reluctance to change his shooting form and confidence. Shaq said the reason for his poor free throw shooting was because his hands were so big that he had a hard time shooting the ball properly. Rick Berry suggested that Shaq and other poor free throw shooters try shooting under hand. They all refused because the form didn't looking appealing, despite it's effectiveness. The same thing is happening to Deandre. Also, when you factor in that he's used to being the biggest and most athletic player on the court, he probably didn't have the same drive to improve his offensive game because he could dominate so easily.

nikka stfu...NOBODY in the WORLD has bigger hands than kawhi leonard and he shoots damn near 90% this season...This nikkas don't work on it every day 3 times a day in the off season. They DONT! its not fukking hard.

Larry Bird said he would do free throw shooting drills at the end of his grueling workouts, it forced him to focus on form and repetition while dead tired and about to pass out

No excuse why a pro player cant shoot at least 60-70 percent from the field. My pride wouldnt allow me to be that bad of a shooter without working on improving it.
