RZA spoke on this. The company was valued at around 50 million at its prime but when members started signing deal with other labels, the company lost value and eventually folded.

RZA could’ve took the master P, diddy and bird man route and kept everyone under Wu tang productions…but he let them walk.

That's crazy, cuz U-God on VladTV was saying that RZA was trynna keep all 9 members under a contract and they wasn't going for it because they were they own man. Wu-Tang is one of the most prolific legendary groups in American history to be honest.

Cash money, No limit, Deathrow made 100's of millions and they don't even have the branding power that Wu-Tang has, maybe death row. but still.

Damn, I woulda believed this nikka if it wasn't for your post.

wasnt there a Wu Tang documentary last year?

itll kind of show how outside of RZA a lot of them dudes are kind of dumb (or they have inflated egos).

Thye didnt like RZA and his brother making moves/money for them...so they all did their own thing.

Like you said..they would have been better off moving together

the difference is you’re talking labels against one crew. Wu Tang wasn’t the label, almost ALL their members signed with different labels as solo artists, which was the plan to begin with, to make the labels work together to promote Wu as a whole hit it didn’t really end up happening that way. There was a small time where I think ODB, GZA and Rae all had their albums coming out or had recently been out and the different labels came together to make a promotional push for all of them together rather than separately. End of the 90s came and most of them thought they could do better without RZA guiding them musically so that’s why they all branched off.

Interesting, I am confused because in yesterday's episode I saw RZA, Power and Devine hand out contracts for all of them to sign.

So they were not signed to Wu-Tang?

How much do you think Wu-Tang should of made?

from what I remember reading the Wu Manual and watching the doco, they were all signed to Wu Tang publishing or a production deal or something but as far as the record label, they mostly went elsewhere, Def Jam, Elektra, I think one or 2 signed to Loud as solo artists maybe. But like I said, that was the plan to begin with. They made a landmark deal with Loud that allowed them to sign to different labels as solo artists, that’s one of the big things that made them go with Loud as a group. The 5 year plan was follow RZA, do whatever he says as far as musically and recording goes and then after 5 years they could go if they wanted to. After Forever, that was 5 years, the main guys had successful solo careers, they hd huge success as a group (#1 albums etc) and the majority of them thought they could do better and went elsewhere.
Had they stayed together I think the clothing line could have been bigger and they could have HD more cohesive group albums and higher level sophomore solos

Taking the deals made sense at the time. The labels gave them the budgets and exposure they needed to become stars, and the music was right. To me the biggest miss with Wu is that when they started to fade, they kept chasing label dreams instead of going independent at that moment.

Wu in the mid 00s was kinda sad outside of Ghost, but even he was failing on a label sales wise. That would have been a good time to go independent, pump vinyl, do shows, get distribution deals etc. Cuban Linx 2 came out via distribution I think…all of them should have been doing that once it became clear they couldn’t sell on a major anymore.

They were all signed to Wu tang productions and RZA wanted them all to stay with Wu tang productions and sign joint ventures with other labels but he didn’t stop someone from signing exclusively. He looked at it as labels working together to represent the Wu tang brand
