Pop's legacy is set in stone.

Nobody can take away from what he's done and accomplished, that stands on its own ground. However, that doesn't mean he has endless credit where what he's doing now can be excused away with him being one of the GOAT coaches. Similar to Phil Jackson's last years when he went out sad because the game left him behind; desperately trying to make the Triangle relevant again and taking a stand against the three-point shot.

It happens to every coach, but it seems this board thinks Pop is immune to that.
I agree it happens to every coach. The primary dynamic in team sports is the relative contributions of the players v coach. No one can take away the titles, however, the greatness of Duncan, Ginobili, Leonard et al is now magnified considering this sad decline.

If definitely amplifies Duncan's legacy. Without a doubt.

Pop's never been able to create that same magic without him. I mean, SA isn't even a place where players go to get better anymore; it seems the majority of players that have left over recent years have gone on to do bigger and better things. Someone like DeRozan, who's approaching his mid-30s, is in career-best form has a new lease of life and is leading the Bulls to wins (which many argued in this thread that Pop shouldn't be expected to win with DeRozan on the team).

Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that Pop was holding him back, but it definitely means the whole San Antonio system is more facade than reality.

I suppose it's something that the Spurs are playing at a better pace this season. Better than they have in years.

The record probably doesn't accurately reflect how the Spurs have played, but I don't mean to suggest that they are good.
There are still certain limitations -- I feel Keldon Johnson hurts more than he helps, Derrick White has been effectively useless, and Lonnie Walker hasn't progressed as a player whatsoever since he was drafted -- how much of that falls on Popovich...I'm not sure. The one thing these Spurs DO have is a level of athleticism they haven't had in years.

It's probably incumbent on the organization to exploit that athleticism but if they're dead-set on playing 2002 Spurs basketball with the 2022 Spurs roster, they're shooting themselves in the foot.

I don't mean to keep harping on this but I can't understand why Keldon Johnson is so involved in this offense. The Spurs desperately need a Power Forward, or another Center (even though I'm generally ok with Poetl)

To be fair to pop...

He has never broadcasted internal issues with players even when the organization looks bad in the process...

I'm sure pop wanted to play a different style, but after the kawhi situation, he catered to his star players and what they wanted to do...

He definitely beefed with LaMarcus(who still wanted his touches) and I'm sure he had static with DeRozan as well...

Pop has openly admitted that the big 3 sacrificed alot to allow him to coach the way he would like

These new nikkas not going for that

We needed to strike gold on the Lonnie or Luka pick..

Buford was following this saminac kid and he completely flamed out...

Lonnie plays basketball but he isn't a basketball player....

Primo looks like he has the tools to be great, but he def should stay in the g league and bulk up a bit...

Spurs fans been spoiled and we gotta ride this out...:yeshrug:

Imaging getting the 1st overall pick and dumping him in the g league

Because I legit fear pop could do that if he sticks around next year :mjlol:
