I think ...I dont know what the motivations are...but I think the Spurs are limiting their ceiling.

Playing some of the younger guys and moving to a better spacing offense is riskier than playing a slower, ISO-style midrange offense.

It is hard to know what those perimeter guys will give you. But that's on the Spurs because...you don't know until you try.

On the other hand you know exactly what you're getting with LMA and Demar.

I suspect that they're loath to make any changes because they don't want to see Pop end his career coaching a 35 win team.

In my view, there is a ton of potential going untapped with this roster.

Last December in this very thread I made a comment about how I would rather have Malcolm Brogdon over DeRozan. And well, everyone is seeing how Malcolm is killing it in Indiana. Demar is the same old guy...
I suspected from the jump that Pop would probably just go through the motions as he winds down his time in the league. I guess when you're at that point of your career, the incentive of trying to reinvent yourself from what you've already established over decades ultimately fades away. We all saw what happened with Phil Jackson when he went down with the ship of the Triangle in NY.

I remember Chuck Daly saying that when he came back to coach in the late 90s, he struggled to adapt, even with the short period of time he was out, because what he once knew about the league wasn't really relevant anymore.

Trae young going off and pop has Patty Mills and Bryn Forbes on the floor while Murray and white are sitting they ass on the bench
He did similar in the last game against the Lakers, not having the right lineup on the floor in 4th.

He's fukking up Dejounte's development having him in lineups with LMA and DeRozan, and it's why he's running with floor spacers (that aren't defensively-inclined) down the stretch to help out LMA and DeRozan, instead of actually getting LMA and DeRozan to space the floor themselves. It's the same bullshyt offense every single game: relying on the bench to maximize their runs.

That is not a winning-brand of basketball.

You can't win in the long-run if you're starting offense is running some 90s offensive scheme.

You saw how jarring the difference was with Trae carrying the Hawks offense down the stretch, not only directly with his 3-pt shooting, but it was the threat of his shooting which opened up the floor and led to easy scoring opportunities. Conversely, on the other end, you had the Spurs struggling to generate runs because there's nowhere to move; DeRozan and LMA are all operating in the same spaces against a condensed defense.

Teams have it easy against this Spurs offense cause they know they don't need to cover as much ground on defense.

This motherfukker gonna coach this team out of the playoffs because of his refusal to play Murray and white together and for some reason his obsession with playing Marco belinelli over demarre Carroll and Lonnie walker

This shyt getting frustrating as hell.

@Gil Scott-Heroin have at him
I'm dumbfounded why they signed DeMarre to a 3-year/$21m deal and he hasn't even been in the rotation, as of yet. Pop and the coaching staff aren't helping themselves on offense, and they're not helping themselves on defense. After Pop called out Lonnie the other day (which he was off-key on; he used Lonnie as a scapegoat), it seems like he's lost all confidence.

It's not a good sign of things to come.

Reports claim the spurs actually did try to trade him to the Lakers but "asked for too much" :yeshrug:

yeah they wanted everybody + draft picks, they should've just took BI and Zo and kept it pushing.

Dejounte murray is overrated and has fukked up the team chemistry.

pop has coached for 30-40 years who cares what this heroin cat has to say. Pop is an expert at what he does and the spurs have an analytic staff with metrics the public can’t acquire lol.

Why debate with someone thats never wrong, according to themselves. I heard one poster say @Gil Scott-Heroin doesn't debate in good faith. But thats 90% of the coli in his defense, hes just willing to type more then other posters and insult them when they disagree with his analytic based opinions. Truthfully i find him hilarious and he is an intelligent breh. Not hating him at all, the Coli wouldnt be the same without him. I see his takes getting brought up in the majority of nba threads :lolbron:

@Gil Scott-Heroin

your argument was that pop is being left behind cause they don't take 3 pt shots

they took 3 more than the hawks

:childplease:
nikka is a fukkin retard, there were years where the Spurs were top 5 in 3's attempted, THEY HAVE 2 nikkaS THAT BOTH PLAY FROM MID RANGE, fukkING IDIOT.

nikka ain't reveal shyt, just made up bullshyt to make himself look like he knows some shyt.

Who are these shooters that Pop is supposed to be using right now :jbhmm:

The difference now is, nearly every single team is centering their offense around the 3-pt shot, whereas the Spurs are essentially using it as a supplementary shot to the offense, and taking relatively the same amount as they did 7+ years ago.

You can't have success in the modern NBA if you don't center your offense around the 3-pt shot; now I know you'll take that out of context, but that doesn't mean I'm saying that every shot should be a 3-pointer
. All the shyt I'm saying isn't ground-breaking, it's simply Basketball 101 and common sense.
nikka ain't reveal shyt, just made up bullshyt to make himself look like he knows some shyt.
I've explained, in detail, all throughout this thread. Even Spurs fans (well, some of them) acknowledge that what I'm arguing is true.
