For a minute, Mos was my favorite rapper (not counting Ra). I definitely didn't predict how mediocre his overall career would be, since everything he did from soundbombing to black on both sides was unfukkwitable.

When he focuses he still brings it, but it's a rare sight these days.

Easily one of my favorite MC's back then.

I had already been a fan from the joints he did with Shawn J. Period from like '97. But the issue has always been his output. Dude pretty much never has any new shyt out. I think the acting became a priority for him, and he kinda threw music on the back burner. I still check for whatever he puts out though because he can still drop dope shyt like he used to.

I was gonna make this same exact thread then this showed up as a similar one.

Mos 98-99 was one of the most complete emcees and artists in hip hop history. Dude literally was great at every skillset on some Lebron type shyt.

He was a lyricist who could black out on the mic, yet he also understood music/melody and could make great songs. His bars were complex, yet the flow was smooth and easy to follow. His content was deep and heavy yet he had a wit and sense of fun so his conscious joints didn't come across as too heavy handed.

so yes, I really believe 98-99 Mos is up there with 94-96 Nas, 90-92 Cube, etc.

Blackstar was dope, but I think people overrate it. The great songs are fuvking GREAT, but that album has its share of skipable tracks. It's a 4.5 to me

Now, Black on Both Sides is a different beast...:whew:

Mos crushed the building that year, as well as the stereotype that "underground" nikkas couldn't properly write songs. :wow:
