I currently have F&L2 as my album of the year, slightly edging out LIG, but I said this in the official album thread:

Lupe mentioned FNL2 would have little relation to the original, it was just named as so for "marketing purposes"

Yes, I do feel like Lupe goes beyond lengths to sound complex and metaphorical these days, but I've never got the vibe that he was trying too hard to the point his music isn't enjoyable. The Cool was storytelling, while this album was just more conscious and political. He still has plenty of that "simple but genius" on this album, you just gotta fan through it. And as far as him being excited, there were a bunch of songs on fnl2 that sounded like he was proud of rapping, like Audubon Ballroom, Unforgivable Youth, Hood Now, Ital, etc.

I never have and never will fault Lupe for his lyrical complexity. It's my favorite trait of his music. I enjoy the album immensely and listen to it everyday. I definitely think Lu is proud of this album as it's the album he wanted to make and topics he wanted to talk about. But when listening to F&L2 the only emotion I have is :whoo: or :ohhh: from some crazy metaphor he said or him pushing the envelope with some of his topics. Thing is F&L and The Cool stir that same emotion and others as well. They're more relatable and personal, if not necessarily to Lupe then to the listener. He Say She Say hit home for me example. Hurt Me Soul I'm sure hit home for a ton of demographics.

I didn't know the Food & Liquor tag on the album was just for marketing tho. Can't say I agree with him doing that, just for the confusion it causes, but it's not a big deal.

I thought he sounded incredibly unexcited on lasers( makes sense), songs like never forget you , come up etc he damn near talked over.

what i mean when i say excited is show emotion or have energy where it is needed. it almost seemed like he was so focused on being extra lyrical that he forgot to just feel the music and just let it out. in other words he was being to careful and not letting loose like he could have on this album. and as stated above his voice isnt bad but it isnt commanding either its never been a problem before but when he makes big statements on certain songs the listener cant help but want to be moved. he forced a couple of adlibs in some songs and was outshined by a hook on another yet again ex:cold war.

:leon: this actually surprised me. i'm not sayin that lupe should be MORE complex, i agree with the notion that he should only do it on a few songs songs, but its some songs (bytch bad honestly) where i feel like he was way too simple/blunt and sequential. and his voice... he sound so damn condescendin on that song :pachaha: like me mad he even has to break the shyt down.

"Yeah, now imagine a group of little girls nine through twelve :comeon:
On the internet watchin’ videos listenin’ to songs by themselves :comeon:
It doesn’t really matter if they have parental clearance
They understand the internet better than their parents :comeon:"

:dwillhuh: so he should be excited in a song that's dedicated to a friend that was murdered clown shyt right here. and the other part of the album which was suppose to be with this is straight rapping songs

Its crazy the stuff that goes over people's head. Too many guys try to be critics, instead of fans.

It used to take me months for an album grow on me, now guys are listening to albums twice and deleting them. How can they expect to absorb everything the artist is trying to do.

i mean if you dont like it you dont like it. how many times did it take you to try a food before you found out you hated it?

I currently have F&L2 as my album of the year, slightly edging out LIG, but I said this in the official album thread:

that was a good point. he tryna too hard to play this little role he imagined for himself now, and his stans keep feeding him and making him believe it

disagree with the better than LIG part but thats another topic
