You've probably been hanging out with the fob crowds, most East Africans who were born in the west arent really that xenophobic. Anyway Ethiopian people didn't interact with the rest of East Africa because we were used of the ethio highlands and we don't have immunity to tropical diseases like most Africans who lived in the tropics. So everytime an ethio or a habesha tried to leave the ethio highlands, we would just die as a result of tropical diseases the average non Horner East African was immune to. So that's why you don't see much influence of Ethiopian civilisation in the rest of East or Central Africa. Same reason why cacs found it difficult to colonise other parts of Africa besides the temperate zones of South Africa untill they discovered antibodies and antibiotics.

Oromo people are thought to originate from the Southern Ethiopia (maybe near the Shabele River or so I heard) near Somali clans, yet those are not Ethiopian highlands. Other East Africans like Somalis have remained isolated yet their country has all kind of terrain.But the Horn has remained has been isolated ,just cause it was, same thing with West Africa. But they have been a few extant tribes to travel transcontinental.
