ok so I have a credit score of 671...I know :mjcry:
I make about 400/week after taxes.
I have no savings so I will have to get a loan.
Thing is idk which route to go.
Should I buy a car from a private seller and get a loan through my bank
or head to the dealership and finance it through there. Which one would be better for me?

I'll just get to the point; you have no savings for a car. You said "If I wasn't in dire need right now I would save but I can't do that." So that means your living pay check to pay check; if you get a car you have to pay for insurance, gas, maintenance, etc. What happens if you get into an accident or get a flat; you have no saving to cover your ass. Going to a private seller is a no because they will mess you over. If you still want to get a loan; try a credit union first because they have lower interest rates. When buying a car do not talk to the dealer about how much you want you car payment to be; that's a trap. First, you talk about the APR (Annual Percentage Yield) because that's how much you get charged each day in between car payments. Then you talk about the price of the car; don't pay the sticker price and ask for the invoice in which the dealer bought the car for and say I want the car for this price. If the dealer does not want to give you the apr you want and the price of the car you want; get up and leave.

3 years ago I was in the same boat you in right now. I had a part time job and went to school full time and had to take the bus (greyhound also) and wanted a car. But I could not afford it

why not do half time in school one semester while working full time? the two classes can be made up during may/december semester. you'd be able to fix your financial issues too. i think the car will only create more issues especially if you must take out a loan for it.

when do you plan to take out the loan? you might try getting a secured credit card to bump up your credit score if you don't plan to buy very soon.

i know a student who bought from a dealership and it did break down within the year.
But I need the car very soon though. The holidays are around the corner and everyone I know is going back home. Also I live in a college town so the bus doesn't run much during that time.

considering the circumstances i'd say extend your social circle to someone with a car who isn't leaving for the holidays. you have about 2 months.

you might have to do what @Poitier said :snoop:and get a guy. free rides.

good luck whatever you decide.

No offense, not even trying to come at you...but based on this and the other thread you seem like a person that just WANTS WANTS WANTS without having the patience and understanding that you can't get everything right away and the sacrifices it takes to get things.

"I wanna go to Europe, but can't afford it....can you donate to me?"
"I want a car" - even though based on your income you can barely afford to attain and maintain one.

Learn to develop patience and know the difference between a "need" and a "want" in life. If you need things that bad, then do what @Poitier suggests and get a partner.

Offended by your baseless assumptions.
My whole 22 years of life, I probably met 5 people who could tell me about patience and sacrifice and NONE of them were in my age bracket. Thank you though.

Wherever whores go.....
Y'all being too hard on her :manny:

With a decent loan and a moderate priced car she will probably pay 300-400 a month :manny:

400 a week is decent day for someone in school. As long as all her other things are paid off she can afford a car. I don't know her situation but if she needs a car then she needs a car

Jerrys place
$20,000 salary = $4,000 car

$40,000 salary = $8,000 car

$80,000 salary = $16,000 car

$140,000 salary = $28,000 car

$200,000 salary = $40,000 car

this is a huge generalization... its really dependant on your spending habits... my mom works for the government and make 50k a year... she bought a nissan rogue brand new for 40k... the last car she had lasted her 9 years... this one will probably be the same...

you certainly do not need 80k to buy a 16k car.... especially ive youve been saving for the past year

Thank you.
I had to take 3 buses and then walk an extra 2 miles for my interview for the job I have now and this was after about 4 months of no income and endless job applications and interviews but I don't know anything about patience and sacrifice.:stopitslime:
With all my grants and scholarships, I graduated undergrad debt free. Like I said the only bills I have are my credit cards (and the only reason I have them is to build my credit), food, and money I give to help out my parents.
I am also being a responsible adult by paying the interest off my current student loans in which if I have to make adjustments with my monthly budget, it'll be fine.
