Merge if you want mods but this beef beat the J vs Nas beef 10 fold. Maybe it's due to social media but I'm not even saying Kendrick part. The entire beef was way better

Eh

Only thing is this got streamed across the world..

Common said the same thing. That this was the greatest battle ever. Cause of his big it was. But also because they traded multiple rounds non stop in a short time span. Nas vs jay was way more drawn out. This battle completely rocked the whole world within a month. And especially that last week after euphoria dropped.

Maybe for nikkas not from NYC. In NYC nah. We just came off 9/11. The feeling in the city was unmatched. Plus the actual raps and diss tracks were better.
Nas and Jay also dropped two excellent albums that surrounded the disses. That shyt was great for the culture.

Then it had the spinoff beefs.

Disagree, some of the things that distracted from it - a decade plus worth of subs that hella people prolly missed, especially if you don’t listen to one of the artists, the number of disses toward background players and weed carriers - like who tf are these nikkas?, the fact that they got real gossipy on some battle of the tea, the fact that the crux of the battle took place in one weekend and was over…like huh?

I enjoyed it but it doesn’t beat the months of tension between jay and nas nor the music it propelled after

Recency bias. The whole feeling of that time frame was urgent. From 9/11, to the beefs surrounding it. It was better songs and bars traded. It also had classic albums attached to it. nikkas saw Nas come back to form and drop some of the most creative songs ever in hip hop up until that point. This shyt don't compare imo.

wasn't in NYC but in San Diego, in my circle, people have opinions, Jay Vs. Nas, but it wasn't binary. They didn't shut the other artist out.

I followed it all on SOHH and in my life, and heard every single track, every single line

heard the bootleg version of Takeover at Summer Jam somehow, on a Real Audio track, read about it

Bought The Blueprint on 9/11, heard the Nas lines, walked to the Target playing Bob Marley lol during 9/11 coverage everywhere, my main thing was buying The Blueprint

Played The Blueprint for months

Played Stillmatic Freestyle intensely, heard every radio version or whatever of anything from the Nas album

Bought Stillmatic the day it dropped,

played it OUT in al lour cars for weeks and months

heard People Talking the day it dropped

it was more of a celebration of the game and the legends, then it was a chose a side.

Nas and Jay was huge but the impact and reach of it was nowhere near this scale. It's really not even debatable. Drake and Kendrick are bigger stars than jay and Nas first off. And then you add in the social media effect. This was worldwide. It transcended hip hop.

And also the drama of it. The twists and turns. The random drops. This shyt had way more excitement and suspense. This wasn't just the biggest moment in rap beef. It was the biggest moment in rap history. Nothing will ever top this.

It wasn't this scale because it was more hip hop oriented. Right now because of social media we got a bunch of people who aren't part of the culture whatsoever commenting and injecting opinions. That sucks imo. It's not a good thing. So it's not comparable in that regard.

Watching Jewish kids rapping NOT LIKE US at bar mitzvahs makes me take this beef less serious. Or Seth Rogen explaining to a bunch of millionaires what this beef is about.

Meanwhile the Nas/Jay beef, especially from Nas side, was very much about separating real HipHop from some of the farcical shyt it had become.

"This is real hardcore, Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit soft"

"Do you listen to music or skim through it"

This beef is bigger on the surface but in terms of the actual genre of hip hop, I think Jay & Nas is more important. Also, the reason for the beef is more interesting; the fact Jay & Nas met on tour in 92 or something before Illmatic was out "Showed you first Tech on tour" Nas mentioning that he sensed Jay disliked him from the very beginning the golden child who was embraced from the beginning (Nas) vs Jay the hustler who spent the first half of the 90s still hustliing while his peers were making strides. Then Nas not showing up to the Reasonable Doubt sessions, sampling "The World Is Yours", the subliminals for years, Carmen, dying mother etc I find the story of Jay & Nas way more interesting. Social Media amplifies everything.

The year 3030
Nas/Jay was better...this was only bigger cause Dot/Drake are superstars + social media.

I cannot and will not take aubrey serious as an actual emcee.

The actual back and forth between nas/jay >>>> Dot/Drake. Dot/drake was one sided, cause only one actually writes.

Jay was a formidable foe to nas, and vice versa.
