I find which schools has the major I want... then try to find a balance between graduation rates and cost of tuition.. Campus Aesthetics... dorms etc

Your campus experience is what YOU make it... it being an HBCU or a PWI has no bearing whatsoever.. you can have a good or bad experience at either one... party life should be last in line for your list of priorities though

If you're a top student at Morehouse, Howard, Hampton or Spelman....you are getting recruited by Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, BOA Merrill Lynch, Google, etc. Affirmative Action on a hundred, thousand trillion. Two of my former roommates work for Goldman Sachs now, another one works for Moody's. Goldman Sachs isn't coming to your wack azz state school

some of these pompous kneegrows don't realize that a lot of TOP companies ACTIVELY recruit at HBCU's (the bigger and more known schools in particular) so they can get more minorities in their workforce. The career fair at my school had a whole bunch of HUGE corporations who were there to interview and recruit students for co-ops, internships and even positions that are guaranteed to the student after they graduate.

Of course we know. I'd still pick going to Auburn over Morehouse or Tuskegee 9/10 times. I could've easily gotten into those schools or Hampton/Howard. No knock to those schools, there's a ton of Morehouse/Spelman alumni around here that are very successful. Like the poster above said, it is what you get out of it.

Me personally, going to an HBCU wouldn't have provided any benefits to me that I thought were worth it. I went to school for engineering, didn't end up leaving an engineer() but the resources at an Auburn or GT are waaaay higher that an equivalent program at Tuskegee as an example.

The business schools are different and the big companies do recruit heavy at HBCU if you indeed want to go that route.

I'm not knocking anyone for choosing a state school over an HBCU. My first (and second) choice was to go to a state school/PWI. I only chose the HBCU b/c they had a good reputation when it came to the major I wanted to do; not necessarily b/c it was a black school or so i could "see more people like me on campus"


But I hear a lot of people looking down on HBCU's because they believe that the students are at a disadvantage when it comes to being hired, but they are wrong.

Folks have to understand how politics work. When you visit a corporation's careers section of their website, they make DAMN sure that image of "employees" on the front page includes a black person, an asian person and a woman.
