People who are not into polyamory do not understand as anything other than swinging. Thus they have a low opinion of polyamory. Poly doesn't appear to me to be anything more than compartmentalizing relationships, essentially having different emotional needs met by different partners, instead of having them met by one partner.

It is by no means surprising that parents do not want to expose their children to that. They do not want to explain something like that. Parents have a hard enough time with single parents who are constantly screwing someone new, poly is more extreme.
