I can't find the murder rate in South Dallas to speak to it but Dallas proper had 183 murders last year. Chicago had 573, and at this point Chicago ain't that much bigger than Dallas and its a major down year. Chicago got 240 so far and its only been 7 months.

South shore has always been a relatively middle class neighborhood. It was literally built for middle class jewish and germans and remained middle class after blacks moved in. That's part of the reason why it looks nice.
