I'm majoring in mathematical finance and I'm really having a economics discussion with a what? Graduate of local news? I don't want you to stay clueless though, start with wikipedia. Search for some of these terms, read summarized versions of some of the bills, read a bit about Obama and Romney. You might have a legitimate reason to vote for Romney, but as of now it's obviously cause you don't know no better.

And again a recession is when GDP is declining (or a sudden substantial rise in unemployment), the recession ended 3 years ago. We are suffering the aftermaths right now. I'm not going to school you on this, do your own studies. Google/wikipedia do whatever breh, don't stay ignorant.
