This line always confused me because when was Drake ever conscious? Even when u go back to Comeback season era it’s more introspective tracks than some higher learning conscious shyt

He was definitely more conscious back than I feel like. Maybe 25% conscious/introspective and 75% pop/simp/RNB.

A conscious record is like Umi Says by Mos Def, doesn’t have to be some crazy lyrical track but I don’t remember Drake ever having songs about social issues. He’d sprinkle in lines occasionally back then but not really

I don’t know if these are considered conscious but he’s made a lot of these songs. How was he making this so young and now he’s making all that trash for the younger crowd? He’s declined in subject matter.

Somebody else wrote it for him :yeshrug:

Classic track but listened to it the other day and was distracted by how whiny Drake's verse was

Game verses talking about I got your back Drizzy, welcome to my hood and city, life is rough out here but we wouldn't have it any other way and Drake's verse all about how nobody like him :mjlol:

That line about being in the club and the competition not being played was tough

The only time I remember Drake even attempting social commentary is on "Charged Up" when he talked about police brutality for a bar. And that was only to deflect from the ghostwriting allegations.

From the time "Best I Ever Had" dropped, Drake's main concern was to be a big star. Nothing conscious or thought-provoking about his music.

He’s probably referring to his Little Brother phase but I wouldn’t call that conscious moreso backpacky
