I'm speaking on a mainstream level and NOT independent level. Also, I put AA because I'm not talking about Blacks/Diasporan folk in general.
I remember the days of 'female' (hip-hop) where it was Pro-Blackness, hate that word, but I'll use it to convey a point. Women like Sister Soldier, Queen Latifah, and the others I can't name that made women stand strong. Also, our Black brothas who were doing the same (Public Enemy) with 'Fight The Power.
How did we come to today and lose control? We have people who aren't even of African descent controlling our culture. These types put up people like, Cardi B, who in fact HATES Black people. Our young daughters and youth look up to people like her. She's called Black women cockroaches, disrespected haitians, ricans, and Coretta King. What boggles my mind is we still support people like her.
This is why I hope people like Rapsody (getting to listen to her stuff) breaks into the mainstream. We need good representation of our people. I'm tired and I know
@PhonZhi is tired of our people being mocked. Crazy how these same owners have stocks in the private prison industry.
Even Love & Hip-Hop and some of these reality shows exploit our people and paint us all in that same box. My friends and I (All Black women) touched on this.
I want to see shyt like this again
Anyway, that was just my little soap box.
Have a good holiday or whatnot.
P.S. rappers aren't the only ones. How about those Black preachers who sell us out and those so-called Black politicians?
