Alot of people did not like the fact that Cube and the Westside Connection were claiming that the West started hip hop. Especially since Cube got a lot of support from the East, and alot of East coast artists, after he left NWA. What's funny is Joe and Westside Connection member Mack 10 became real good friends after the initial vitriol.

Supposedly it started due too Kam giving Ice Cube some security from the Nation Of Islam (Kam use to go get Cube to go to Muhammad Mosque # 54 in Compton...Cube has made reference to this on record This is why you have the Farrakhan samples and The Khalid Muhammad samples in his latter work like Lethal Injection for example) around the time he was shooting Boyz In The Hood (remember this was also around the time Cube & Eazy-E were beefing...remember that scene where Cube bombed on the crackhead wearing the Eazy Duz It shirt???). I think Kam mention years ago on dubcc that Cube didn't look out for him on the side of helping him promote his album. After that Kam, stated he'll never rock with Cube. They still have the tension more on Kam side then Cube , seeing as Cube never mention his cousin Kam or his other cousin Del Tha Funkee Homosapien for that matter. about a year ago on Facebook Kam made reference to Cube not wanting to co-sign anyone from the New West.
