Because Cube actually was the best rapper in the world once. Then he got wack. Nas never was the best.

if Nas never the best then how was he a let down? :aicmon:

staying relevent for 23 years should be an accomplishment for anyone. You dont see nikkaz still try to check out for Rakim or Big Daddy Kane

the older u get the more realistic your expectations become. in hindsight, Cube gave us too many classics, albeit in a compressed period, but as history has shown, thats more than you can ask for. Straight Outta Compton, AMW, DC, Predator, Lethal Injection and that Kill At Will EP. how many MCs/ groups have that amount of quality? Outkast did it over a long period of time. We owe Cube forever. He earned the right to be wack. Isht, he even gave us classic movies as well. Cube the GOAT all rounder.

Death Certificate is, for me personally, the most powerful album I've ever heard; not just in rap.

Illmatic is one of the illest albums I've ever heard.

Cube's last few albums were pretty good.

Nas' last albums were dope as hell.

Can't complain about either, both in my top 3 :manny:

Both GOAT contenders.

but as for the thread, neither of them had really been a let down. Nas is still putting out great music after 20+ years in the game, and Cube managed to transition into Hollywood, and made great movies and whatnot. Not a lot of rappers can do what either of those guys did.

Cube didn't fall off he got older as well as much richer. He has got at least two classic albums while other rappers we put above him don't have one. Cube knew he couldn't keep up the gangsta image and still get that corporate money. Once Friday hit and he showed a little humor and made a profit it was a wrap from there. He should get credit for not staying stagnant and moving into another lane. Because even if he has stuck with just rap I don't think he would be as big as he is now and people probably wouldn't be clamoring for him to drop an album. But best believe if he drops another Friday movie or another kids flick people gonna line up to get a ticket.

one more great thing about Cube, he did his classics with all eyez on him. it wasnt like he was making classic music that people was sleeping on like Reasonable Doubt. Cube was the center of the rap universe when he did his best work, we all know the greats perform best when the pressure is on and all eyez on them. like Jordan or Ali. its sad to say, but a lot of these rappers have buckled under the pressure of expectation.

:scusthov: at the disrespect of Ice Cube in this thread. He did fall off quick and fast in the rap game but his first 2-3 Solo Albums can go up any ANY rap artist first few projects as far as quality goes.

Not really a let down to me though, Dude just found a different lane after Boyz N Hood dropped. The way the rap game is I think he made a great decision because you only can be "Hot" for so long and some cats aren't intrested in still be trying to be the best rapper in their mid 30s and 40s.
