facts I bet my life everytime 40 goes to the hospital he gets great care and doesn't get treated like an addict or worse. That's something people with sickle cell don't fukking see at all.

My sister has sickle cell and she's in constant pain, she runs through her pain meds so quick that they are trying alternatives, plus she has developed ulcers on her ankles that have required skin grafts before. Blood transfusions, all that, I offered to do bone marrow transplant, but she's my half sister, so the doctors didn't want to do it.

no they don't the health care system is run by white people so it is inherently racist doesn't matter where you're at. White people with chrons, ms etc get better care these are facts.

We're in KS so it's a no go for now. I think Missouri has medical up for a vote, so she might have to get a KCMO address if they pass it. Why type of pain does your sickle cell give you?

there is different kinds there is acute crisis pain when our capillaries get blockages that is 10/10 pain. Everyone is different but I know people who get this multiple times a month I get it maybe 5-10 times a year I wanna say but I take good care of myself. Then there is bone pain which is pretty much constant and that varies on how much damage your bones have taken, you might have to get replacements for joints etc after a while.

I can't speak for @krackdagawd, but my sister told me to take a rubber band and wrap it tightly around the tip of my finger. I could only take the pain for few seconds. Then she told me, imagine that pain for hours or days until you can get treatment. When you have sickle cell, your blood cells are crescent moon shaped instead of round; this causes your blood cells to clog up your blood vessels.

Yeah eating healthy will help a lot as well as exercising and staying hydrated. I got a new procedure done where they drill stem cells into the hip and it regrows bone, it's brought my bone pain down as well. After I started hitting the gym and getting in shape the # of crisis I get a year went down about half.

My sister's biggest issue was not staying hydrated. I'm going to tell her about the stem cell procedure to see if a hospital will do that here.
