And again, I used to have a lot less issue voting 3rd party back in the day. fukk, I've done it before. But if ya'll really don't think now is a different time in American history than the 40 years or so leading up to 2020, I don't know what to say. The GOP and their leaders are straight up saying they want to terminate or suspend elections going forward, get rid of the constitution, they don't believe in climate change, etc. They're stripping back rights as fast as they can with SCOTUS. They're saying crazy shyt like we should have the death penalty for drug dealers, and that being gay should be illegal. They're going to go after contraception and interracial marriage. Just a few days ago Ted Cruz said gay people should not be put to death and their voter base backlashed at him super hard over that.

It's very important in 2024 that Trump or DeSantis not become president. These guys are straight up Facist Theocrats, and they have nothing but disdain for freedom and our rules of law, and basically unless you're a Christian white male, they don't want you to exist.

It just seems crazy to me that people would equate Trump or DeSantis with Bush or Mitt Romney or some other GOP candidate of the 2000's. These guys today are much more ferocious and vile (W Bush was still a war criminal but he wasn't bragging about how he was going to eliminate freedoms for a huge part of the nation). .

I guess you were a Republican supporter when you voted 3rd party back in the day then?
What you are missing is why do people vote 3rd party in the 1st place? THEY DON'T LIKE EITHER CHOICE FROM THE MAJOR 2 PARTIES! Therefore, counting 3rd party votes as automatic Dem votes is not logical. Most would just not vote and the remaining would be split down the middle between Rs and Ds.
No one owes the Dems their vote they have to earn it. And shaming people with name calling and/or fear mongering about what Rs are gonna do drives more people away from Democrats not toward them. It doesn't have to be logical it is a visceral emotional reaction to being called names and being boxed in with impossible choices.
Currently, if the status quo holds it's vote for Trump a serial liar and completely corrupt politician or Biden an elderly guy who looks like he can die any day now and has dementia. This is unacceptable to most and most people survived the last Trump presidency no problem so the fear mongering about Rs isn't convincing enough.

I know a dozen people personally that had their lives altered in seriously negative ways (and their freedoms limited) due to executive orders and policy prescriptions made by Trump and/or the GOP under his leadership. The GOP are all about mask-off facism right now, and they're getting more extreme every year. It's not fear mongering. That's basically the way they market themselves now.
