That's an arbitrary line in the sand.I'm sorry old heads but pre chonic rap music sucks so bad. Conscious music at the lowest intellectual level, shytty beats, corny nursery rhymes, boring flows.

I was in junior high when these songs first dropped going into my freshmen year.....I was a music fiend tho bruh. Recorded EVERYTHING off the radio, stole new tapes, traded them, read all reviews, listened to my brother's collection, recorded videos, loved it all bruh.
CMC, best thing about the Bay was how we ALWAYS supported our own no matter how local, as far as music getting played.....415, Short, Spice, CMC......Remember this shyt
"Just another homicide for the west county times"![]()
I had that album. P was great until he moved back to Richmond. West Coast Bad Boyz was huge. That was my shyt.
I think Herm's shyt was first. You right, WCBB was huge.....First time ever in the Bay cats was united like that from all areas. CMC and KMEL supported that shyt big time, they supported Ghetto's Tryna also. Bay compilations first started getting off the ground starting with that WCBB album.
Between WCBB, Bone, and Me Against, muthafukkaz lost they minds up at the school 94-95.
I think Herm's shyt was first.
Had the promo before it hit the street, they got the dates wrong on youtubeOne of the best songs ever
And still very relevant
Replace "Vanilla Ice" with Macklemore in the song and it still makes sense

This whole convo reminds me that I was trying to @ you in another conversation not too long ago. I was taking the position that 8Ball and MJG and UGK weren't big artists in the Bay during their heydays (i.e. through 96). Now people knew who UGK were b/c they were on the Menace soundtrack - but I don't remember anybody with a UGK album and i don't remember their records getting play on the radio or seeing any videos. Ball and G came on my horizon when I saw the ads with Ball sitting on the car in 95/96. Again - I don't remember any of their songs/videos getting play.
There was some idiot (@Tony Muthafu%*in Tubbs ) who ain't even from the Bay who was trying to act like they were superstars. @observe backed me up in the convo (although he did remember one Ball & G video getting play).
What do you remember?
That's when I really got put on to UGK n Ball n G.ive always thought Cube was the GOAT. why ? you just summed it up.With all due respect to Chuck D(who's in my top 10), prime Ice Cube is the greatest conscious rapper of all time because he made music that actually appealed to the audience who needed to hear his message the most.
I've said it before, but what Cube did on Death Certificate would be the equivalent of a rapper today making Chief Keef/Waka Flocka style music with the content of Dead Prez/Lupe. Most conscious rappers have trouble reaching those who really need to hear their message but Cube was able to do it effortlessly, without sounding forced or preachy.
Cube's run from Straight Outta Compton to Predator is the greatest run in hip hop history imo
Whoa u really think so? That's a huge statementTop 5 Hip-Hop album of all time.
