In real life I hardly ever hear Cube mentioned as an MC. While I always hear about Infamous and Hell On Earth all the time. Hear about the N.W.A shyt sometimes of course, but overall hear about Mobb Deep much more. Listening to Infamous now and it's more captivating than any Cube project to me, prefer Havoc to Cube too. But Cube is probably a bigger icon/legend. But musically I think P has been a better MC overall.

Just a quick random thing, checked the view count on youtube for the most view counted songs from the albums, Shook 1's part 2 has 5 million views around, Cube's is How To Survive In South Central and has around half a million to 600 thousand views.

You must be around New York nikkas all the time, more people talk about Cube's first 4 albums and Straight Outta Compton as all time great albums than any Mobb Deep album. And No Vaseline got over 15 million Youtube views since you wanna play that game, and some of them NWA songs have more views than Mobb as well.

Mobb Deep did not barely go Gold like I said The Infamous went Gold in two months, Hell On Earth went Gold in 5 months, Murda Muzik went Platinum in two months and is certified 2x Platinum. The RIAA hasn't done a great job of tracking their sales over the years.

Cube was the bigger star there's no disputing that.

So The Infamous was gold in two months but still ain't platinum til this day, only platinum plaque they got is Murda Muzik and it ain't 2 times plat. Don't try to make conspiracy theory excuses for their lack of sales, RIAA tracks every artists albums but somehow they didn't count those Mobb Deep joints.

Infamous did 700-800k on its original run as I recall at the time.
Also, in talking with people who don't know much about hip hop - I get the sense they know about The Infamous before DC. For what that's worth. Only heads know about DC and rate it as high as it should be rated (top 5).

Yep, I agree with this. I feel he gets overrated too because he's a superstar. He's a great actor, I rate him as an actor. And he's a dope rapper, but I don't have him in a top 20. Though I can understand why someone would. But when I'm listening to these two albums back to back I'm understanding more and more why I feel the way I do. P and Havoc are spittin much better, lyrically, flows, rhymes, everything. My heads bumpin to the Mobb shyt, it's an easy effortless listen, Cube's shyt is so much slower and more simple. It lacks replay value to me, I'm not expecting hugely complex, cause Mobb aren't but Cube is a a very a, b, c rapper, I remember even Kool Moe Dee said who rates Cube that Cube's weakness is he's too simple and direct and lacks metaphors. Cube is more complex than some of these simple wack rappers today, but when you compare him to the greats he comes up lacking to me. Infamous aged so much better to me considering it's only a few years gap. Cube could technically rap, but he wasn't the greatest MC, someone like KRS, Rakim, Kane and others could rap circles round him and those are kind of his peers since they all came out in the 80's first.

Cube's superstar status is what makes him underrated in rap, some nikkas look at him as a sellout who does Disney movies and play him like his music wasn't on some real shyt. If you compare their primes, Cube '88-'93 and Prodigy '95-'00, Prodigy was killing ish, with very few weak verses. The difference to me is, as great as Cube is, one he practically left the game early ('93) to go Hollywood, and two he never was as vivid as some others (including P), in his rhymes. Cube was in-you-face, hit you hit you hit you some more. Prodigy had a style that puts you at the scene, and puts it together so beautifully that you feel every emotion. Even Cube's peers with similar styles MC Eiht and Scarface were better and more lyrical in that aspect than Cube. That's what hurts Cube to me.
