Ice Cube isn’t feeling any heat in light of recent retaliations against police, with TMZ catching up with the N.W.A. rapper to ask if he’s reconsidered performing “fukk the Police.” “Pressure me? Pressure me to do what?” Cube asks while being interviewed at an airport baggage claim. “Nobody said nothing to me. I ain’t gonna change nothing I do, cause I ain’t doin’ nothing wrong.”
While “fukk tha Police” was released in 1988, the success of last year’sStraight Outta Comptonbiopic has signaled a resurgence for the group, who joined Cube during his headlining Coachella set earlier this year, with Cube bringing out Snoop Dogg and Common as well. While Dr. Dre wasn’t able to make the reunion show, Ren and Yella came on stage, with the trio performing “Straight Outta Compton” and “fukk tha Police.”
That was in April though, before tensions between the Black Lives Matter movement and police escalated with deadly results. A shooting in Dallas left five officers dead, while one in Baton Rogue killed another three. A song like “fukk the Police” then could be seen as inciting further violence, though it is hardly responsible for the death of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile or the actions carried out by a single rogue gunman.
Ice Cube is set to perform at the HARD Summer Music Festival at Southern California’s Auto Club Speedway later this month (July 30-31), alongside DJ Khaled, Desiigner, Anderson .Paak, Lil Uzi Vert and more so time will tell if Cube sticks to the script he’s laid out here.
