We don't learn about slavery to make ourselves feel less than white people. Understanding history is crucial in understanding why things are the way that they are. Try explaining how America came to be without mentioning slavery. It just wouldn't be possible. Kids would be left with more questions than answers.

They need to go into more detail on stuff about reconstruction and the Harlem Renaissance, and not the cliff notes verison we usually get. But here is the thing. After i took a step back and analyzed the situation i realize that Cube (and Steve Harvey) hearts were in a good place.
