wish i had more time for honest discussions with folks that say "why not try to work with republicans".
the reality is repubs genuinely don't care about our vote. their whole infrastructure is built around eliminating race as a factor in policy making. that helps protect the white power structure and gives their base (mostly poor uneducated white folks) the illusion of hierarchy when they are really getting shafted.
look at black folks that have tried to work with republicans. a lot of them get disenfranchised because no matter how much they push a more level playing field they never get off the bench. or they only get playing time when repubs need someone to carry water for their fukkups of forgetting to take their hoods off. thats why tim scott gets heat. he's a republican eunuch and he knows it.
that said, i do understand the grievances with dems. i agree we don't get enough for our votes. however, we have the power to change that, but not by taking ourselves out of the game. we have to change it by saying we'll do this (help you win) but it won't happen again if we're not taken seriously. the benefit of helping now and pushing after the election is we don't lose the infrastructure to enact policy. i seriously feel if republican win again, voter suppression will continue to get worse and they will use the courts/exec power to justify rolling back any semblance of checks/balances and race based civil rights. fed laws that are in court right now will probably be wiped away. no stopping them once the laws are changed or diluted.
some of us might not be impacted right now but look at how many of us have been hurt economically and physically by the pandemic fall out. thats not fear mongering, that's reality. some of you take for granted that can't get worse because it has only been a few months. this economic recovery will take years. look at how much we lost from the recession under Bush.
