DHS says officers in Chicago fired at driver who ‘rammed the law enforcement vehicle’​

(CNN) — Federal agents shot at a woman after she rammed a law enforcement vehicle in Chicago, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), amid escalating anti-ICE protests and the Trump administration’s efforts to clamp down on unrest in Democrat-led cities.
Officers fired “defensive shots” at an armed American woman after she – along with the drivers of at least 10 other vehicles – rammed and boxed in officers, Tricia McLaughlin, DHS assistant secretary, said in a post on X. The department identified the officers as agents with US Customs and Border Protection.

“Agents were unable to move their vehicles and exited the car. One of the drivers who rammed the law enforcement vehicle was armed with a semi-automatic weapon,” McLaughlin said in her post. “Law enforcement was forced to deploy their weapons and fire defensive shots at an armed US citizen who drove herself to the hospital to get care for wounds.”
The woman was identified as Marimar Martinez by the DHS, which said she is in FBI custody after being discharged from the hospital. Martinez was recently named in an intelligence bulletin last week “for doxing agents and posting online,” McLaughlin said.




DHS said another person, Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, was “involved in the ramming” and is in law enforcement custody. It is unclear whether Martinez or Ruiz have been charged or if they have legal representation.

A spokesperson for Chicago’s Mount Sinai Hospital confirmed to CNN that the woman involved in the shooting with federal agents was treated and released.

Law enforcement also deployed gas canisters at the protesters, according to footage from Reuters. The footage shows protesters screaming, running, and shielding themselves. “This is Brighton Park, this is not a war zone,” one woman told a journalist.

No officers were seriously hurt in the incident, said McLaughlin, who also accused local police in Chicago of leaving the scene.

“Pritzker’s Chicago Police Department is leaving the shooting scene and refuses to assist us in securing the area,” McLaughlin said. “There is a growing crowd and we are deploying special operations to control the scene.”

The Chicago Police Department said they “responded to the scene to document the incident” and “maintain safety and traffic control for all living and working in the area,” but aren’t involved in the investigation.

CNN has reached out to Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker for comment.

Dividing people on cultural issues works everytime in favor of the people fukking us all. Immigration, minorities, etc, aren't the reason why people can't buy houses, grocery prices are skyrocketing, people can't find a job, unemployment climbing, and quality of life is declining. Its billionaire and corporate greed the cause of all that.

All this shyt is shyt that actually impacts your life. Stuff you should actually care about as it relates to politics

But they have folks caring about trannies in bathrooms, DEI, and immigrants. Most of these people angry about this shyt don't even encounter this shyt to the level that matches their outrage.

American society is too divided and isolated.

One thing not talked about but I think is a huge part of it is the dissolution of labor unions. If you know the history trade unions in the past, it wasn't just about holding a business accountable to treat you fairly as worker. They were also a way to collectively fight against state action too. In that, general strikes and national strikes can shut everything down when the government is acting in a way people don't like. Like, no services of any kind.

Destroying unions not only make corporations happy, it makes the government happy. Collective action by society is a threat.

Just watched this video a few days ago. Its about how a right-wing coup took power in Berlin from the Social Democratic elected government after WW1 and all but won. The only problem is they didn't have the population on their side and all it took was a general strike of millions of people to grind the whole country to a halt and the coup couldn't even operate anymore and capitulated. This type of national collective action in the US seems impossible to imagine.
