It's true that modern metrics don't favor a guy who doesn't have a lot of power in his game.

However,

A batter who consistently hits .300 and is able to get on base and steal bases IS valuable.
In Ichiro's 1st ten seasons (all with the Mariners) he averaged .331/.376/.430 with 38 stolen bases a year.

If he'd played on just about any other team in the Majors during that time he'd have scored WAY MORE than the 105 runs he averaged with Seattle.

Like many have already said, if he came into the show a little earlier than 27, who knows what his numbers would have looked like :banderas:

The man played the game with nothing but class and is the prototype for a true professional on and off the field..
