Personal Top 10 , the only reason older heads is hesitating to say that is because it's post tupac/biggie even though they're not going to admit it alot of them do it subconsciously and I be peeping game . DMX has the top 3 best delivery in hip hop and it's proven throughout this album , lyrically he's at his apex , the emotion throughout every track its potent you can literally hear where his mindstate is at and Dame Grease might be one of the most underrated Hip Hop producers of all time every beat he did on this album was impeccable and till this day I don't understand why DMX replaced him with Swizz Beatz . You can say this is top 10 and not sound asinine .

It has a special place in my heart because of nostalgia, but I don't think it's a major classic like that.

Might be the GOAT "gimmicky" album, tho.

The whole "Bring the streets back"/dog barking thing felt manufactured to me.That was the whole marketing scheme behind the album, but I wasn't buying it

I wouldn't necessarily call it a street album. It was mostly some horrorcore/ultra hype Onyx/adrenaline rush type shyt.To me, Juvenile's 400 Degrees was more of a "street album"

Ironically, IMO, How's It Going Down was the realest/most organic/down to earth song on the album.

The album hit it's zenith with nikkaz Done Started Something, tho. That's a bonafide classic right there. One of thee GOAT collabs...EVER.

But yeah, it's the greatest gimmicky album of all time.Coming out the Puffy/Mase shiny suit era, IDAHI dropped at the perfect time for maximum success.Def Jam saw the market open for "something real" and took advantage of it.

X fans won't like me saying "gimmicky", but that's just the way I saw it:yeshrug:

I'm not even mad at the album.I still listen to it from time to time. It's gimmick perfection
I get what you're saying but DMX was really a criminal and speaking on real crimes he actually committed and arrested for. The Infamous is more of a "gimmicky" street album because them nikkas wasn't doing none of that. It's a top 5-10 album all time to
me but it's not very different than Boss album if we talking about reality/fiction.

I don't care how many times DMX barked I can't call what he did a gimmick because that nikka really lived that life. Gimmicky to me is when you're fronting like Onyx or something.

Wasn't Boss a complete fraud though? I don't really remember all the details, but wasn't she from a nice neighborhood and went to a ritzy private school?
Mobb wasn't out there catching bodies like Champagne Papi, but at least they were around that element. :manny:

I could be wrong about Boss though...

X was a crack addict, robbing nikkaz to get his next fix.

He could never spit real street game like a lil Boosie, Juvenile...early Ice T

If X is street, it's petty street level.

I just think that's the majority of X's music.

Mixed in with the prayer thing....it just came off gimmicky/formulaic to me.

That being said, he showed he was capable of making songs with more depth when he dropped Slipping.

That's one of the most icy cold, bluesy songs in hip hop history.I'll always give him that.

But that track wasn't on IDAHIH

X did crack but he was doing way more than just robbing nikkas for a fix. He was committing violent crimes. That's why more thorough then standing on the corner and selling a pack.

He was robbing nikkas way before he even started doing crack and was in and out of prison/juvenile institutions way before then. Not sure how old you are or where you from but crack heads was fukking gangsta back in the day btw. Lol. They weren't strung out nikkas you kick around nowadays. They would really hurt you and badly back then. And he was still in the hood robbing nikkas after It's Dark dropped.

LOL I don't think anyone knows about Boss.

I mean the same could be said about Onyx as Mobb Deep. They were around it and their friends were involved but they weren't. It wasn't really to discredit them more just saying DMX was way more of a "thug" or street nikka than they were, so I don't get how what he did was gimmicky hen he was really in the streets doing crimes not just watching it.

Nah...I like X.Actually met him a few times.

Once at a club called the "Elks" in Phoenix & one other crazy ass random time at a Circle K(Convenience store) in Tempe.

When I saw him at the Circle K, he actually paid for everybody's shyt in the store.Generous guy.

So I actually like X the person more than I like his music

Not Top 5 but still a great album.

It probably has more longevity than a lot of classic albums though.
Like, you could probably drop that DMX album in your stereo tonight and it's still very listen-able.

Something like Illmatic or Midnight Marauders is going to feel a lot more "dated"
