:upsetfavre: what's the topic of this thread

:ohhh:

is football still not a niche sport in America?

:ohhh:

why can't americans just accept noone cares about your country when it comes to football...noone

Topic of this thread is ways to "make soccer more interesting from an American", as in the average American. That's the topic.

I know it's still cool to laugh at the American soccer culture, but to pretend that the state of the game is the same as it was in the early 90s here, or modern Qatar, is to be disingenuous. Especially since US money, even at niche sport status, is now fueling CONCACAF almost to the point of clear corruption.

I think a good change would be a power play sort of thing, MULTI-BALL.

If at the end of the game it's 0-0 then each team gets 3 balls to try and score. That way we wouldn't have boring 0-0's.

Or if its 0-0 at full time.

Each team gets to pick a player and they have an mma fight in the centre circle, 1st to tap loses.

too bad you'll never get to see your overated country win the world cup :umad:

It's a curious one, this.

I'm in my early 20's, i figure i've got at LEAST 10 world cups to watch.

And given the changes being undergone at grassroots level and the resources we have to implement these changes, i'd say i have a decent chance of seeing us win a world cup or euros in my lifetime:jawalrus:

to act like American football is relevant on a global scale is also being retarded...I never said you weren't making strides forward...but you're still irrelevant. Deal with it

who said we were? :pachaha:

the whole point of my posts was letting jadillac know the US wasn't relevant to the rest of the footballing world. You tried to challenge my posts, which insinuated that you had a problem with the points I was making

therefore bbz :stopitslime: and keep it moving

I'd suggest an MTV Rock'n'Jock type of rule change e.g. in their variant of basketball there was a 25-pt hoop lowered on top of the regular hoop at the end of each quarter.

3 point goal, on top of each goal, four goals, four goalkeepers :ohhh:

thanks for proving my point...you was given that world cup to boost the popularity of the sport in your country.....just like qatar

thanks :myman:

Do you think Qatar really got the World Cup to boost the popularity in a country of 1,759,000 people? Nothing to do with the large amount of money and bribery?

As for the US not being relevant to the rest of the world when it comes to soccer you are probably 90% right. With that said why do most of the big European clubs come here to play their preseason games? Because they want to tap into the American culture and grow their teams business. They know their is big money to be made in the US.

Original poster: the whole offsides thing shouldn't be this difficult to understand. Look at like this. Instead of letting player cherry pick and stand around you have offsides and make both players stand at the same exact line. Now let the ball get played past them and see which player is faster/which player is a better athlete and can get to the ball first. That's how you need to look at it.

Never said we were special. Yes, our nation as a whole is way behind most other countries when it comes to the sport. We aren't as good, our league isn't as good, most common American's don't care about the sport. All I was saying is that though we aren't the focal point of the sport we do get interest from big clubs because they do know that the US backing their team/sport will increase the money and will be good for business. Same reason China gets insterest. Doesn't mean that the sport will be played any better. So you are right. We aren't special and the sport will thrive without the US involved at all.

I see you skipped over the Qatar thing. Was that you just trolling?
