He basically said he's human before he's black. Which isn't a bad way to roll at all. But because he didn't word it a certain way I'm sure folks here came/are coming for his neck.

"I'm not black, I'm dominican"
"I'm not a black actor, I'm a classsically trained actor"

:youngsabo: when something associated w/ blackness, it's always seen as lesser. But y'all see that's a nikka who act some, regardless of what he thinks.

This is probably true for him. He has several effective layers that protect him from the type of racism that "everyday" black people face. He's rich, famous, and attractive. He has the type of access to money and resources that most of us never will. The playing field has been leveled for him. If you think about what race and class are, as concepts, and how they function and interact with one another, then it should be no surprise to you that someone like Idris Alba has this type of perspective, but, again, its his perspective.

I get the point he's trying to make but the way he phrased it is.. unfortunate, to say the least :francis:

He wants to be acknowledged for his excellence and mastery of his craft. Not to be seen as "the black actor".

I agree, he wants the role, why would he not? I doubt he gets it now. I think he is too old and the moment has passed, they will go younger as they should

Bond producers already made it clear that they want a cac for the role. Which honestly I think is appropriate.

Because Bond represents the UK, its imperial reach, and is a model for cac dudes around the world.

So why would a Black person be the face of that anyway? It makes no sense :mjpls:

because we have the capability to run a corrupt imperialistic empire too...

it makes sense eventually we would rise to that level in the system...

even if our starting point was at the bottom.

Honestly I don’t think it’s a bad thing for “black” people to feel that way, they not running away from blackness
I think we have to be the ones to move human civilization forward, evolve mentally because everybody else seem like they okay with color discrimination
I never really agreed with this idea that because everybody else is racist we should be racist too, that’s not a good way of thinking and handling business, and if people who claim “black” act like that they will be part of the underclass forever
