If anybody should be blamed for T'Challa not being recast, it's Chadwick.

I love Chad, but the breh knew he was deathly ill and didn't say a word. He didn't disclose it to the fans, to Marvel, to the directors, costars, not anybody.

He didn't owe that information to us as fans, but he did owe it to Marvel. His sudden death caught everybody by surprise and put Marvel in an impossible situation. Black Panther wasn't just a movie. It was an iconic property for Black America that a lot of our hopes and dreams were wrapped up in, due to its incredible portrayal of black people.

Once Chadwick died, Marvel went into a tailspin scrambling trying to figure out the best way forward. There was no easy answer.

If they had recast, many of the same folks mad that they didn't recast would have been talking trash about the new choice to play the character. They would have endured endless think pieces about how the new guy doesn't live up to Chadwick and how Marvel doesn't respect Black audiences.

Marvel did their best on this one. And if Chadwick had just told them the situation from the beginning, they might have been better prepared to plan out a game plan as opposed to being caught with their pants down and having to scramble on the spot.

Discuss.

You got a point, dude knew what he had. He should've at least tried to alter the storyline since the whole death-resurrection-death thing has made the story even more awkward.

He also could've left the door open for Killmonger

RIP Chad

He was ill when he first took on the role. He accepted a role for several contracted movies while knowing there was a chance he may not be here to fulfill that contract.

imma just say this before the thread is probably bushed. breh who cares about the movies? There's more important things and the movie was pretty overrated too.

He was a great actor and seemed to be a good dude for his family... but he owed Disney nothing. They severely underpay their actors.

Seek help for your mental state OP. Maybe you just need a girlfriend.:aicmon:

Our prayers are with you to become a better person

In your daily prayers be certain to include these three points and the spirits of mental confusion and laziness will depart from you:
- forgiveness for anything bad you’ve done knowingly or unknowingly in this inclination or the next. Forgiveness without being punished
- forgiveness for anyone that has done bad to you knowingly or unknowingly. May they not be punished on your accord
- protection from evil

From my understanding, he thought he was going to make it. Things obviously took a turn for the worse. We say all this in hindsight and I understand the frustration, but this discussion gets us nowhere.

That is a valid point too.

I love that Marvel is choosing to honor his legacy in the movie instead of pretending that the brotha didn't exist.

I like the fact that they are actually honoring Chadwick by "retiring his jersey" and dedicating a film to his passing as opposed to pretending that he was never there.

While it's true he didn't owe it to anyone to disclose his illness he could have severely hurt the other cast and crew by not doing so.

If Disney decided to just scrap BP2 or put it on 'indefinite hiatus' a lot of people who were relying on that sequel check would have been screwed out of money.
