Heads up the film is available on Hulu now. I was planning to rent it at Redbox, before I saw it was added there 
Regina King won for Best Supporting Actress other than that the movie went misty ignored during awards season.

It was boring. The scene at the house with paperboy and OG slapping his wife was the only scenes that were interesting.
The movie was slow but that doesn’t make it trash

Different strokes for different folks. It was trash to me and those I watched it with.

Great acting. The living room scene where fonnys dad slaps his wife was well written. She was saying some hateful shytt. I would have like to see more of fonnys mom in the movie. That scene was better than regina kings scene in Puerto Rico.
That dynamic where a parent doesn't feel like they're children's partner is right for them was very interesting and wished there was more of it but it is what it is.
The movie was too slow with no burn. I get what the director was going for but to me it came across as oscar bait, using cinematography and music to fill a scene instead of plot and story. Maybe if they cut it down to 90mins I would like it a little more but i was exhausted at that point.
6 out of 10 just because of the subject matter and its importance. Movie should have been better.
