Life in America would change significantly. If we officially boycotted professional sports, refusing to play for their teams, the impact would gravitate at all levels. A leader, someone respected, needs to tell these athletes that they are the slaves of the new age. Their willing participation in this slave industry of professional sports is one of the reasons white America continues to feel unthreatened for its perpetuation of white supremacy.

Sports owners are business men.
They'll just find other people to fill the void until enough of the black athletes feel the pressure of the public and their families to earn that paycheck.

It doesn't matter what we tell these athletes. It's not in their heart to be a Jim Brown, Tommie Smiths, Kareem, Ali, Russell, Chamberlain, John Carlos of the worlds. These athletes today care about money, not about social change. We cannot resort to vilify them as well. If they're open for discussion, then that's a different story. We cannot rely on these entertainers to be the change. We have to become the change. It starts where you live. You have power through your own voice and you don't know it. Stop putting these athletes on a pedestal. Become the change.

Willingly or not, athletes with a high profile have the attention of the country and in some cases, the world. What they do and don't do has an impact.

When you grow up struggling in a certain paradigm and are lucky enough to succeed despite several obstacles, you kinda do have a moral obligation to try and change it to make it better for others like yourself.
To hide behind this "I'm not a role model" or something like that is rather cowardly...especially considering what people like Jim Brown and Muhammad Ali risked in that very same position.
