How is Ferry not a great GM? He is probably the best GM in the NBA aside from Riley. Don't say Buford, he has Tim Duncan. Duncan makes every GM look good.

But dawg, quit hating on Ferry. Best GM I've seen in Atlanta. Can't help but be happy. He's like TD is to the Falcons but even better and smarter .
I'm not shyttin on Ferry but you say not to point out buford cause Tim Duncan then why point at Ferry when he had LeBron James making him look good?
Not for nothing but the Nets trading for Joe's contract was cause they were absolutely desperate for any sort of star power not because Ferry slick talked them into it so what exactly is he getting credit for?

His mistake and biggest mistake was signing Larry Hughes who just had a season where he was getting 22/6/5/3
Didn't fit next to James. Too ball dominate and not good without the ball. That was Ferry's mistake.

05- Hired Mike Malone as an asst coach. One of the best coaches in the NBA talent wise. Needs to get HC exp and needs to be better at player relations but what a hire. A

It wouldn't be so bad breh if he didn't do the pick swap for two really deep classes like 2014 and 2015. If we get CP3 and Howard, ya'll going be drafting with the last two picks in the draft for the next two years. We gonna be somewhere around 18-24.

Joe was seen as a top 3 SG who had been a 6th time All Star. Joe was very good so you have a point but check this. We got rid of a bad contract for nothing but exp and then got a 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick, and we have the option to swap picks in 2014 and 2015.
That is great GMing. Anyone can trade Joe but most would get us one bad contract who is useless, exp, and we would have to trade a pick. What we got is why Ferry is great and why most GM's are average or terrible like BK
Sund who was our previous GM was average. I liked him but he didn't know how to make things happen and just sat on things and hoped for the best.

Dawg, great GMing is all about making very good decisions in terms of the cap, personnel, staff, and trades. Two of his asst's became HC. John Kuester and Mike Malone. One of his GM's is Chris Grant, one of the best up and coming GM's in the NBA.
Breh, look at Kupchek, he is an average GM with a great historical org and while he has made quality trades. Outside of the Bynum pick most of his pick have flamed out. They raped Memphis then Marc became special. The Lakers didn't even know he was going to be a NBA player. He was a random throw in to them.
But since he is with the Lakers, he can do a lot more than what others can do. That doesn't make him better than avg, just puts him in a better situation. Won several rings as GM but still avg. Then you got Majri who is a very good GM. Smart. Makes impact picks. Does make mistakes unless it's a cheap one. Very good at trades. He to me is a very good GM who can be great if he isn't already. He has one no rings, he is just a great GM.
