WHen I have my first son and he grows of age...the sadness i'll have for him never being able to witness the greatest rap career in history and one of the greatest black figures in American history...I'll have to tell him of the legendary Hov so my son will atleast have a glimpse of the greatness we have witnessed brehs :wow:

Jay was the best at making a street song a nationwide hit. His run in the late 90s and early 00s single-wise was on some next level shyt. Even if you don't like his music you have to give him that much. Every damn summer, all those classic guest appearances, those era defining singles. During that time he was on a Bowie/Prince type run. I personally think most of his albums have a lot of filler and he's turned into a pop parody of himself since the Black Album, and people conflate success with good music, but if you can't accept someone else thinks he's the GOAT you're just hating on him. Dude had an amazing run.

Did you seriously just compare Jay-Z to Bowie & Prince?

Bowie started trends and reinvented himself with damn near every album.

Jay survives by following trends and raps mostly about how much richer he is than you.

Bowie, really?

I was comparing his run. It was a little exaggerated but Bowie both set and followed trends. Young Americans was straight philly soul played by a white Brit. Ziggy Stardust was adapted glam. He wasn't the first but he did it the best. Low was basically Another Green World fueled by cocaine withdrawal.

Thing with Bowie was that he knew what trend to advance. In 1977 he would have made a punk album if he was anyone else but he made some krautrock inspired insanity that people didn't appreciate for years and basically set up the 80s. Bowie also knew who to collaborate with. Amazing musicians made their best music with him, eno, fripp, etc. I think Bowie is a much better musician than jayz and prince too. I agree his music is often shallow, but you can't really say jay only followed trends. He knew who to collaborate with, how to take trends and do it pretty well or better than other people. Some of the best hip hop producers made their best songs with him too. shyt even being a trend hopper is hard. People criticize Bowie for it but like I said he made Low instead of some punk nonsense in '77. Jayz knew what trends to absorb and how to make hits. I'm not even a big fan of him but you can't take that from him.

He also fell off hard like Bowie too:pachaha:
