Traveling out of state is the only part that sounds bad here, is your company aware of it and gave the thumbs up or you just hit someone up about it and they agreed?

if your company is allowing you to do this, who knows, if you do really good they may want to offer you a position in the end, it’s a win-win for them if you volunteer, do really good and employ you because of it.

How far would you be driving?
I don't work on weekends
None of their business
They don't pay me enough to get that info
and I'm a contractor

Both Saturday and Sunday driving 4 hours there and back? So 16 hours total driving, That’s what you’ll be doing? If it is that would be a no for me but I’m not in your situation either so.
I'd stay over the weekend get a room

nikka if you don’t lie. The fukk smh. That’s the oldest trick in the book right there. They teach you to be honest and don’t lie while they lied to get to they positions. You better fukking finesse these folks. Cancel that internship ASAP. We do not work for free over here pleighboi. fukk a foot in the door. bytch I’ll kick this hoe down.

Step 1: Lie about any certs you know you have the skills for. Literally photoshop your certificate/proof. If you know the shyt and have talking points, they won’t know you lying.

Step 2: Lie about experience. I ain’t in the tech world, but you know the experience you need. So lie. Just make up a whole fake job if you need to. If and when they can’t verify it, photoshop the proof.

Step 3: Eat like a real nikka. fukk working your way up. Most posters gonna tell you the opposite. But most posters scary and broke

No way would I do this especially with the details you mentioned. Your current company doesn't have a network team? Is there no way you could cross train with them?

I was more so referring to just gaining some experience not necessarily move up. Like ask about helping on different tasks/projects. Definitely do not lie about certifications. It's very easy to verify if you have one and you don't want to end up getting yourself blacklisted. How far away are you from getting your CCNA? Do you have a homelab setup?

I'm cool with that:yeshrug:
Do anything to get in the door
Work for free for a few months and take the experience
I said internship but I should have said volunteer
I'll change the OP

OP ain't nothing wrong with what you doing. I will give you a quick story. A brotha I went to college with (he majored in industrial engineering) couldn't find an internship. So he goes to a local company that had ties to the university asks them and his dean if they could work out letting him volunteer as a industrial engineer for the summer working for free.

Of course the company jumps on it cause it's free educated professional labor. The brotha works for them for free an entire summer. That free internship experience gets him an internship with a fortune 500 company the next summer where he makes 25k that summer. Which that same fortune 500 company offers him a job when he graduates from college.

So no brotha, ain't nothing wrong with what you are doing. Actually its smart cause many folks too prideful to say hey I will do whatever it takes to get in the door.
