why would you grow resentment for something you willingly decided to have: a child?

Valid question. However many people grow resentment over the impact a child has to their life. Too many people decide to have kids without putting into consideration what is really required. Ideally soon to be parents would be at their peak mentally, physically, emotionally and financially before the child is even born. Realistically many lack self awareness around those areas, still have the kid and try to make the best with the deficits they have. This is where resentment begins because you still are trying to resolve your problems AND raise a child.

One of the hardest realization is parents who try to do their best but their best is no where near enough for that child.
