Sean sold 87k first week and tapped out at 400k on his debut album and wasn't even a big artist at the time. Wale did 28k and tapped out at 200k on his debut than finally went gold with Ambition. Y'all nikkas kill me with this fanbase shyt :heh: Where was y'all nikkas at last summer when Sean was everywhere?

Big Sean been releasing singles for over 6 months and still can't get a date xuz he has no buzz

but he wrote all them songs tho :patrice: hook and everything, probably made the beats and everything

none of them u name is super stars anyway, none of them is a nicki, ye or chris brown

and none of them could push 325 right now, all of them would be selling around 100k range

:pacspit: stop posting faggit dont post again till sean album drop

:smugfavre: na im just playin my nikka, who would i have to shyt on always around album time

I just wanna see if this album is going to have lasting power. I'm more impressed with what Kendrick did. Kendrick sold 242k first week and is on the verge of going platinum (929k). J.Cole last album sold 217k first week and tapped out at 685k. Would rather be Kendrick :pachaha:

:what: Guap was the only official single he released (which charted on Billboard for 12 weeks). Switch Up was a record he just threw out there (wasn't a single). Album is done. Release date will be out by the end of this month

Yeah Sean sitting on a potential classic (from those who have heard the album). Why y'all keep saying y'all don't know where Sean fits in? He's in that conversation like it or not. If you're gonna put Wale in there you might as well throw Sean in there. Check his stats

:what: when did Sean flop tho? Wasn't it y'all on SOHH that said Sean wasn't going last after FF. Over the past two years Sean has done nothing but become even bigger. Sean been selling shows for the past 2 years by himself (internationally too) .I mean imagine what Sean is going to sell this time around :blessed:

 Miguel doesn't sell

you see this @Ineedmoney504, 325k people rushed out to buy J. Cole album because he had Miguel on his single

:youngsabo:

Talib Kweli - Come Here ft. Miguel - YouTube

Nas - Summer On Smash ft. Miguel & Swizz Beatz - YouTube

edit: or are you saying J. Cole feature presence really does nothing for a songs success? Cuz if that's what you sayin, I agree with that actually :leon:

but then again, Jae Millz, Mack Maine, Lil Twist, etc. have thrown Drake and Wayne on plenty of their singles, and it did nothing for the songs either. So that's a null point.

What superstar has hopped on one of his singles? Please lets me know. People just dont want to give Cole credit at this point

the game had every superstar imaginable and his shyt didnt do numbers :heh:

So what superstar was on Work Out off his first album?

What superstar was on this album? Miguel :wtf:

Y'all misunderstood me. I should have been a little more clear.

If Kanye, Hov, drake, Wayne etc hop on your single. It's almost guaranteed to be a hit song.

Now what happens if J cole hops on your single?:beli:
Nothing. He a star. But he ain't no superstar.

Stop it, Trey Songz has 2 gold albums in 5 tries. Missy Elliott? 1 His album had sold 218k before they even made it a single, and at that point Missy was pretty much irrelevent in the music world. So who really did who the favor? Miguel? You mean the nikka who does even have a gold album yet? Coles first album sold more than both Miguels albums. Stop it..

Missy Elliott is/was still relevant. She still writes and produces for artists some of them low profile and some of them high profile. She's even gotten some features.

I think guest appearances play a role in a song being successful because of chemistry and execution. I don't think "Nobody's Perfect" or "Can't Get Enough" would be what they were without Missy or Trey. Not saying the success of those songs rode off the fame of the featured artists, but it was more so the chemistry and execution that sold those songs. Same goes for "Power Trip".

I'm confused.

Did Big Seans last album flop because he didn't have a hit single or because he doesn't have a strong supportive fan base?

Like :wtf: haven't you guys been watching anything over the years? Consumers don't buy albums cause they're hot. They download albums cause they're hot. Consumers buy albums to support artist that they like. Artist/albums that they feel exemplify what Hip Hop means, gets their money.

Get the most fans. Win the album battle.

I don't think Cole is superstar status, but he has a strong fanbase. Superstar status is him getting magazine covers, his own stage at awards shows (not just the BET Hip Hop Awards), becoming THAT rapper for features, etc.

Cole having a strong fanbase will probably be more rewarding in the long run because superstars come and go in Hip Hop. For example, 50 Cent is an example of a superstar who had a nice run, but his fanbase was fickle. Jay Z is an example of a rapper who had a strong fanbase and snowballed into a superstar. Jay's strong fanbase gave him longevity while launching him into superstar status.

Nah, not us.

here's the thing Nigerian. I'ma keep it 100% real with ya my dude

we, the great people of SOHH, never gave a big enough fukk about Big Sean to even have a strong opinion on him like that. nikkas would drop comments on his music like oh he cool, yeah I like this song.. and keep it moving

:patrice:

he ain't have no haters, cuz like I said, we weren't thinkin bout dude. like at all.. it wasn't until you showed up on some "J. Cole never gonna make it, Big Sean the real star!!!" shyt that we actually started payin attention to that muhfuccka!

but, as you see, that went no where. the stats ain't addin up. It's Kevin Durant vs OJ Mayo right now. yeah the boy a nice player, he can put on the show, and with the right people around him, he might do some things... but that nikka ain't in the same stratosphere as young simba lmao..

but at this point, even addressing Big Sean is beating a dead horse. It's not even entertaining at this point because its a one sided fight. Sean ain't even throwing punches, the boy getting pounded.

:laff:

Of course they had their share in making the song what it is, but lets not act like the songs solely gained a buzz because certain artist jumped on them. It's a whole different discussion if you try to make it seem that way. Missy may be relevant now, but if she was around the time when "Nobody's Perfect" dropped, I sure didn't know. Aside from her clear success what did she have going main stream wise at that time? Even if she did, the album had previously sold 218k before that was even made a single. I dont really remember "Can't Get Enough" having that much critically acclaimed success even though it did have it's run on the charts. I dont really remember too many people buzzing off that one. As for Miguel, I really think he jumped on the song to repay Cole for giving him his intial buzz. I think alot of Cole's success is from his fanbase being so reliable to buy his album, I mean he has people buying 5-6 copies just to support him. That's crazy and I just don't see too many rappers getting that kind of a fan base going for themselves.
