J. Cole's a dope artist, props to him. He's not rapping at that "upper echelon" like he thinks (I raise the bar higher, and I don't see enough creative or wittiness in his metaphors), but he knows how to craft songs and had a dope album. Props to him :salute:

Y'all misunderstood me. I should have been a little more clear.

If Kanye, Hov, drake, Wayne etc hop on your single. It's almost guaranteed to be a hit song.

Now what happens if J cole hops on your single?:beli:
Nothing. He a star. But he ain't no superstar.

but that's kinda a misconception

Kanye was on Fat Joe's Pride and Joy, Lil Wayne is on LEP Bogus Boyz Def Jam debut single along with Ma$e of all people, Drake was featured on Tyga's single "Still Got It".. shyt, Jay-Z was on a fukkin Saigon song in his prime

getting a big name on your song is not a guaranteed hit. not even an "almost" guarantee. If it were that easy, labels would have been taken advantage of that.

Cole isn't a star to me tho. He's a skilled new guy rapper...he has a good story...makes some pretty decent records...but as far as this industry goes I feel he could've done better underground or independent. it fits him more as a person and i feel like rocnation really just squandered his early potential. don't get me wrong...he's a good MC...but I just don't see a star in J.Cole...not on the Drake/Kanye level...

i feel the same way about Kendrick...talented...but not a star.
Now Max B..that guy was a fukking superstar.

Nah, not us.

here's the thing Nigerian. I'ma keep it 100% real with ya my dude

we, the great people of SOHH, never gave a big enough fukk about Big Sean to even have a strong opinion on him like that. nikkas would drop comments on his music like oh he cool, yeah I like this song.. and keep it moving

:patrice:

he ain't have no haters, cuz like I said, we weren't thinkin bout dude. like at all.. it wasn't until you showed up on some "J. Cole never gonna make it, Big Sean the real star!!!" shyt that we actually started payin attention to that muhfuccka!

but, as you see, that went no where. the stats ain't addin up. It's Kevin Durant vs OJ Mayo right now. yeah the boy a nice player, he can put on the show, and with the right people around him, he might do some things... but that nikka ain't in the same stratosphere as young simba lmao..

but at this point, even addressing Big Sean is beating a dead horse. It's not even entertaining at this point because its a one sided fight. Sean ain't even throwing punches, the boy getting pounded.

:laff:

Outside of J.Cole selling more on his debut album what has J.Cole achieved that Sean hasn't  That's a real question.

Let's make it simpler. Since you want to get all technical. Can jcole headline a arena tour?
Superstars can.

Of course they had their share in making the song what it is, but lets not act like the songs solely gained a buzz because certain artist jumped on them. It's a whole different discussion if you try to make it seem that way. Missy may be relevant now, but if she was around the time when "Nobody's Perfect" dropped, I sure didn't know. Aside from her clear success what did she have going main stream wise at that time? Even if she did, the album had previously sold 218k before that was even made a single. I dont really remember "Can't Get Enough" having that much critically acclaimed success even though it did have it's run on the charts. I dont really remember too many people buzzing off that one. As for Miguel, I really think he jumped on the song to repay Cole for giving him his intial buzz. I think alot of Cole's success is from his fanbase being so reliable to buy his album, I mean he has people buying 5-6 copies just to support him. That's crazy and I just don't see too many rappers getting that kind of a fan base going for themselves.

I agree that none of his songs are huge solely based on their appearances.

As far as Missy, she was featured on a few Pop songs around the time of or a little before "Nobody's Perfect".

If a superstar hop on your single its guaranteed to do decent numbers. Cole aint no fukking superstar.

yet, both KENDRICK'S national recognition (hiiipower) and MIGUEL's breakout 1st hit (all i want is you) wouldn't had been had it not been for COLE

nikkas just think Cole isn't a 'star' because he doesn't have a gimmick. He's a regular nikka like most of us who happens to rap. Noreaga doesn't owe him 100 favors, he's not begging ex bytches on their voicemails, and he ain't fukking fame whores who are successful off a porn tape while simultaneously acting like a diva. The same reason they dont want to give him their respect is the same reason they call him 'boring'.

J.Cole ain't no superstar and never will be  In terms of features y'all acting like J.Cole didn't have Trey Songz, Missy Elliot, and Miguel on his singles. Outside of Workout J.Cole has had a feature on every single.

there nowhere near superstars though, sean had chris brown, nicki, and kanye on his singles and couldnt get the job done

btw u said last week sean was gonna have a release date and a name for his album this week so where is it :lolbron:

Couldn't get what job done? Sean sold 400k+ with 3 monsters singles altogether on that album. What was y'all expecting? Even at the time Def Jam didn't think Sean was going to become has big as he is now. As for info for the album shyt is coming. Def Jam rolling everything out this month about the album.
