Cleveland Cavaliers Owner Pens Public Apology to LeBron James

It’s fairly safe to assume that Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has gotten over LeBron James’ infamous departure via “The Decision”. Back in 2010, upon hearing the shocking news that James would be “taking his talents to South Beach”, Gilbert penned & published a scathing retort to Cleveland Cavalier fans, strongly criticizing LeBron’s decision to leave. In the letter, Gilbert expressed his disappointment in James, calling him “narcissistic” and accusing him of “cowardly betrayal”.

Well, it seems he’s has completely changed his tune and has taken to The Plain Dealer, Ohio’s largest newspaper, which published Gilbert’s very direct apology to the former hometown hero.



Dear LeBron,

As you know, much time has passed since you left Cleveland to join the Miami Heat a few years back.

I just wanted to take it upon myself to publicly apologize for my inappropriate words towards you days after your national TV special officially announced your departure.

It was definitely a disappointing moment but I along with all of Ohio are willing to let bygones be bygones and welcome you back with open arms, should you decide to come play for the Cleveland Cavaliers again.

You have always been “The King” and you always will be. Nothing or no one can ever take that away from you. You’ve earned it.

I PROMISE YOU that a return to Cleveland would fulfill your original declaration of a multiple-title filled dynasty. Together, we could make that dream a reality and deliver the fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers “not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven…”

The possibilities are endless.

Cleveland misses you, Champ. You’ll always be the Chosen One in our eyes.
