I agree to some extent..
He was protected from being murdered. Cain was cursed to be a nomad. As a wanderer, he was going to encounter other people who knew what he had done, which was the mark was set upon him, so no one would take vengeance on him.
Why don’t you ask God yourself?
A God has to exist, why would a middle eastern man bother writing this when he would get rejected by his family?
I know you’re agnostic but if the faith says you can “test it”, what do you have to lose to ask God to manifest in your life?

God exists, again though the Bible is full of man made stories written for personal gain. The creation story in Genesis and probably revelations are the truest to fact. The Bible probably was true before the Catholics got to it

Knowledge is a double edged sword. The act of knowing recording and observing puts limits on what is possible. Like the knowledge of death puts limitations on what you believe life to be. Like Schrodinger's cats but in your mind. If you want to get into awakening and spirituality, the collective unconscious of mankind math and science could be considered evil since they take us further from God. And in the end they fail miserably to describe what existence is.
What we are, is beings of pure light trapped on earth, living out the matrix and groundhog day in continuous cycles. The backdrop is what we consider time and the "times" to be.

I’m just not interested in spending time and energy on the POTENTIAL for god. I want to live a good life, do some good, and hopefully leave my loved ones in a better place than when I met them. If god exists and I was a good person then I should be rewarded. If god doesn’t embrace me because I ate meat on fridays or some goofy “rule” break then maybe god isn’t as loving or wise and people make him out to be.
