The problem most of you have is believing the fairy tales of good music will get you everywhere... good music and connections and doing interviews and blah blah blah

WHO YOU THINK SETS THAT UP???? Your label.. how do you think you get on radio in wisconsin?? you think people was calling up to request section 80 music, and the radio station already had edited versions lined up just in case??? How do you think these artists get these tours?? Get these movie placements?? endorsements?? THE LABEL

Jimmy Iovine had Eminem... now AFTER slim shady lp went diamond, em tried to drop MM lp... guess what jimmy did? told him straight up "NO.. i will not ok this release until you give me another silly single like Hi, My Name Is." That's how we got The Real Slim Shady song... Eminem is the one who told that story

So yea, they hold the key.. you don't follow what they feel will blow up, you don't make the music they feel will make money, you don't do what they tell you to do, you WILL be put on that back burner.. and you can make 1203921 songs, they won't release it.. and if they do, they might say, fukk this guy, and pull your promo budget after a week

meanwhile, another guy is doing every hit they want, being ghostwritten for, sucking on jimmy's dikk after work.... what you think he get?? the button pushed.. meaning a memo sent out to the company... PUSH THIS ARTIST.. even tho there's 10 other artist that might have releases out.. nah focus on this guy cause i really believe in him

aftermath is owned 80% by interscope... dre in his own words would tell artists HE signed... "yo you better come with hits asap cause jimmy will drop you quick" it was jimmy dropping all those artists

And that's why I respect Ebro and most people hate him... they want him to be about music and what's good.. and he straight up tells you... HIS bosses only care about numbers and money... so what he likes, doesn't matter.. and if he tries to be militant and say no, i'm only playing good music... then they fire his ass and get the next person in there with no problems.

that's the industry y'all.. you gotta play the game.. that's why so many people say its fake.. bunch of back room deals, money under the table, favor for a favor type shyt that controls who gets hot, who gets played, who blows up.... while nobody cares about the actual music anymore

and when you have a guy who controls the music for probably the most known hip hop station in the world, saying multiple times, in multiple interviews, exactly what the deal is... y'all get mad at him for telling the truth.. like you don't want to believe what's right in front of your eyes

This is the reason I feel morally conflicted about buying Kendrick's album (I don't d/l, so I haven't heard the whole thing)

There's no way Kendrick is EVERYWHERE just because he made a good record

No hate--do you, homie

But, it ubiquity of this dude--who was "independent" a little over a year before his "debut" dropped--has me like  over the last year or so

Vado? Seriously? Kendrick was selling out shows across the country before Dre called. Same with Cole, same with KRIT, same with Curren$y, etc. They have loyal fanbases, some smaller than others. What does Vado have? He deserves a shot because he's from NY and spits "real" shyt? What does Kendrick spit that isn't real my g...

When Vado can write a song and travel around the country selling out shows, then we'll talk. Iovinne is a business man - he's in the business to make money. He signed Dre because he could make money. He signed Em because he could make money. He signed 50 because he could make money. He signed Game because he could make money. And now Kendrick is in the same spot, making money. All them dudes had established a career or buzz before getting signed because they WORK HARD.

The problem with nikkas today is that they think they can do a couple interviews, make a fancy video, and sell records. Big Sean flopped because people don't give a shyt about his music as a whole; they'll buy the single and that's it. And why don't people care? Might have to do with Sean not touring hard enough, not working DJs hard enough, etc. J Cole used to get tips from program directors on how to get his shyt popping. Now look at him. Kendrick did every interview, every DJ event, everything; LA radio doesn't play him nonstop just because he's hot, they play him nonstop because he made the right connections over a series of YEARS before finally getting the radio friendly singles he needed.
:usure:Game had an established buzz before getting signed or did he struggle to get a buzz and almost got dropped just like Vado until he got that 50 cent stimulus package?:mjpls:

Jimmy Iovine didn't really make Kendrick hot either

Y'all remember his 1st single flopped

Swimming Pools was flopping too

Kendrick got off through word of mouth his first week sales estimates kept on increasing

that's obviously when the machine fully backed him

This whole Kendrick thing is going in circles here. Half the people say he is everywhere because someone pushed the button and the other half is saying Kendrick doesnt even get airplay so he isnt really that big. How can half the people say he is everywhere and the other half say his shyt doesnt get airplay?

Ask your self this; what type of exposure hasn't Kendrick gotten? The last Hip-Hop Awards (10/9/12) was basically the Interscope Kendrick Awards only two weeks (10/9/12) before his album dropped.

Dude is on everyone's album, too. I've seen him on a handful of no-name R&B singers' records.
The lack of radio play may be more evidence against the "Supply=demand" of Kendrick. Interscope is pushing him like early 00's Eminem.

How is this different than any other label though?

Of course the label holds the key.

?uestlove said the reason Jay Elec's album hasn't come out is because Jay doesn't feel that there's a radio single on it.

Cole had to go back and come back with a radio single after Who Dat flopped, Work Out's success led to an album date.

Saying that a music label promotes artists that makes songs that are marketable, that get radio play isn't exclusive to Interscope.

There's only a handful of rappers that can go plat, of the new class it's Kendrick and Cole. To say that all a label has to do is push the button, ignores the fact that there aren't that many people on Kendrick's success level right now. If all a label has to do is flip that switch, we wouldn't have threads complaining about the lack of record sales, two threads under a thread asking for PMs for links.

interscope didn't even promote his album, they started to promote him after a few weeks.

and I'll talk for myself, some friends of mine told me to listen to it and I thought it was amazing, that's why I decided to buy his album. This is the only album I bought in 2011/2012/2013 and I didn't even know he was so popular.

I invited all my friends to buy this album :ohhh:
I was like: "I don't know who he is but hip hop is back homie, you need to listen to it and support it if you like it" :ohhh:

he gave me faith in hip hop again

I guess Jimmy Iovine didn't push the button for Slaughterhouse, Yelawolf, Charles Hamilton, Wale, etc. :manny:

he didn't push the button on them.

they got good promo, but not even half as much as Kendrick.

Charles Hamilton? I didn't even know he was on interscope. lol.

I'm not saying its any different. My second post points out how the GOVERNMENT sued all the major labels for payola (paying radio for spins)..... And every single one of them were found guilty

So no it's not one label. Not just jimmy. But people in here really believe hard work and good music is all you need. That cheef keef is out here getting the same marketing dollars as Kendrick. That jimmy puts the same exact budget into every artist cause he believes in them and he's fair

Like I was saying, it's all politics. You do what they want, they push you harder, set you up for bigger tours, put you on bigger records. For no skill reason. But just because they like you more and think you're sexier, or you have a dance, or you're willing to sell out.

I am not saying Kendrick is this person. I'm saying I agree with what the man said in the interview. Give anybody a 2-3 million dollar budget and put him on all your other artists songs and tours and radio singles. Give him all the pr and magazines and he'll blow up too
