If points get devalued on a credit card, should you cancel?

Is there any precedent of points going to shyt, and then getting better value again?

cap1 vx got hit with its biggest nerfbat ever today... op, i'm blaming you for the jinx

i still got you on the down ass, no kids, boston accent, thick jawn tho... already got a candidate in mind but she's latina not redbone, and kinda busted in the face :patrice:

edit: points devaluation is just the card churning circle of life. your product reached critical adoption mass, now with customers locked in, the issuer wants to get their acquisition costs down. soon enough another card will come along and try to poach all the customers who canceled because of the nerfs. this is a good reason to not hoard points, smoke em if you got em.

Any particular card you had in mind? All points lose value either way but certain transfer partners might mitigate some things

You should do your research before cancelling a credit card as it can potentially lead to a decrease in your credit scores. Every situation is different though, so just do your due diligence.

For me, I'm in good standing with all my cards, and have great credit lines, so me cancelling one would affect my debt-credit ratio and it would affect the overall age of my credit history (since age of the closed card would no longer be averaged into my credit age).

All those people adding a ton of AUs so they could get access to the lounges too :pacspit:

I'm still keeping the card since it's pretty much free with the travel credit and 10k annual points :manny:

To answer the question though, probably shouldn't cancel but downgrade to a card with no annual fee

pp lounges are ass except in the middle east/east asia so idc about aus getting their access revoked. c1 lounges are nice but i think they only did a few of them so far?

the primary cardholder not being able to bring guests is really lame, i think it might be the only card that includes pp and doesn't allow guests. i guess it's better for solo travelers but i'm supposed to pay $45 to bring my gf so she can have some stale biscuits - or hit $75k spend on a card that's inefficient vs. its competition, costing me way more than $45? why would a couple ever stick with vx over venture now? free entry to moma? :mjlol:

can you do product change? i never closed a credit card in life
that's the optimal play in general, see @Raw Lyrics' post... unless you're talmbout the southwest card, chase has temporarily banned pcs on that one

i'm coming up with only 1,500 eligible women in the boston area, and even that counts those who are taken, or don't have your preferred accent :lupe:
