Right now, strippers and porn stars are praised, so I don't think I'm reaching when I say prostitution would be socially accepted in due time after legalization. Agree or disagree?

Prostitution is legal here in my country and it still carries all its traditionally negative moral and social connotations. Giving employment cards to prostitutes doesn't change the fact that society as a whole views them derogatorily. They're one of the lowest classes of workers in terms of social status and it's even worse because the people denigrating them have the popular moral high ground on their side.

So no, legalizing it will not normalize it. People are still going to give your neighbor the side-eye when they find out she's on backpages. People are still going to use slut as an insult. People are still not going to want that profession for any woman they love. There would have to be a government campaign of mass indoctrination that, by exposing people to prostitution as a positive or at the very least neutral activity, overrides culturally ingrained recrimination against it.

Not going to happen, imo, religious morality is still too strong and even for non-religious folks, I really don't think they'd be cool with people teaching their kids it's okay to grow up to be a whore.

Religion is the main reason for promiscuity being frowned upon; with that said, more people are religiously unaffiliated than ever, and the numbers are going to continue to grow with each generation. I feel like the majority of people do and accept, what they're told to do and accept. So if that government campaign did happen, it would be coupled with the non-religious movement, and I don't think it would take more than two decades to be normal, here in America.

As for people still not wanting it to be their kid, I agree. I just think that eventually having a child in the sex business, would be on the same level as having an adult, lazy, stoner for a kid. Sure, you go to sleep and wake up wishing that they to do better, but it's not the end of the world, and disowning them doesn't cross your mind. But once again, this is what I think would happen in America.

I know you're Brazilian, is it true that many of the sex workers there, are being put in English classes to better service the crowds for the world cup and olympics? Also, I'm curious about how you personally feel about women who prostitute themselves, to get through school, or to get the capital to start a business, or something like that. Do you look at them like they're dirty or less than, or as people who were willing to do what they felt they had to do, to make a better life for themselves and the ones they love?

Of course people can be conditioned to accept prostitution. People can be conditioned to accept most of anything, including witnessing public executions, abuses of power, exploitation of slavery and genocide as normal occurrences. The things is, who would push for prostitution to be accepted socially? Who is the group of interest behind this potential mass campaign of reeducation? Most conservatives would see that as a pretty serious attack on christian morals, who's gonna buy off/scare off the resistance? The sex industry doesn't even need social legitimization to be successful, it already is.

As for if prostitutes over here are taking classes, I honestly have no idea. It might be sensationalist journalism, it might be true.

And regarding what I personally think, I don't see prostitution as a legit business and/or occupation. It's a social cause of victimization, yes, lots of innocent young girls are pimped out, but I believe voluntarily prostituting oneself is a mistake.
