If someone is health conscious and trying to get fit. Should they just worry about the right amount of protein and ignore calories?

I tend to be heavy on protein. Chicken, Fish, Boiled Eggs, Turkey. And always have a side of veggie/greens to go with it.
For sugar, I might have a cup of coffee or peppermint tea and add a light amount cane sugar.

Here is the thing: Protein can be expensive. If you want to keep it natural and eat whole foods, its not that individual proteins are expensive, it will just usually make up over 50% of your budget. That said, if you can afford quality meats, yes, you can somewhat ignore calories. If you pack plates full of veggies and get good lean meats, your appetite for bad carbs will be low. Vary the diet enough to not get bored and make sure you aren't bullshytting if you work out. Get that heart rate up.

But the high protein stuff usually has good fats? Right?
Bacon does. Honestly you’ll be safe throwing butter and cheese on everything, but you have to cut sugar, otherwise you won’t reach ketosis, which is the ultimate way to burn body fat.

There’s a rumor that it’s possible to reach ketosis on OMAD of pasta. Fasting + High fat/low sugar is the key.

people tend to OD with diets....unless you're a professional athlete its not as serious as people make it out to be....ONLY natural sugars is going to be difficult to pull off and really inconvenient.

Natural sugars is easy. Just don’t eat anything preprocessed and have fruit. Also look at vegetarian protein sources. It all doesn’t need to be animal based products. Fats are important too: nuts, avocados, oils.

As for the OP question, yes and no, its not the same for everyone, especially with the way people train. The best port of call is understanding how many calories you need first.

Every eating plan will do the same. If you’re eating 3k of protein calorie meals and you’re required input is only 2200kcal then you can obviously tell what would happpen.

Carbs are fine, they’re not the enemy as some people like to make out. You need to plan to eat
for the rest of your life and not just to lose weight.

Is this real?
Yes. Fat is very important. But knowing what type is even more important.
