@PeteButtigieg on the GOP's cynical border sabotage:

"You've got the Congressional GOP, talking about the border, every chance they got. So you would think that they would be interested in addressing it. And yet, when [there was] a bipartisan bill put together by one of the most conservative members of the Senate and Democrats...it looked like there was going to be a chance to do something real, with real resources at the border. Only for Donald Trrump, who's not even an elected official to come in and kill it with the chill that he put on Congressional Republicans. So yeah, we can either solve problems or have them be political footballs."

Maddow on Britt’s rebuttal: She was one of the senators who was involved in the negotiations to create a border bill. She helped create the bill. And then voted against it when Trump called on Republicans to pull the plug on the bill that they themselves negotiated

Then why do Republicans keep blocking any bill to get it under control?

Do they think we don't see them blocking bills left and right for no good reason?

You guys who keep crying about The Border need to address this. You keep blaming Biden....but only a few Republicans are even willing to talk with Democrats about putting a bill together.

What is up with that? Curious minds want to know.
Immigration like several issues is a political weapon and it's not meant to be solved. For every immigration bill there are provisions within them of pet projects/funding that get passed that most are unaware of. Both sides (#bothsides) had times where they had the presidency and control of congress and did nothing on the issue other than deportation. Most of the folks in congress are highly educated attorneys. They could solve this if they wanted to but they need juicy red meat when its election season and voters always talk a bite.

Feb 2025 is the end of a big drop and Trump was bare in power so isn't likely fully Trump's doing directly. Tbh, it seems like maybe the Biden admin tightened enforcement right before/at election time and it stuck until Trump got in. It will be interesting to see how it changed over the next few months.

Except you can't really take credit for fixing a problem you helped cause. And then claiming you couldn't fix it without new legislation. Only to turn around and fix the problem anyway once the Bill failed.

Troops were first sent to the Border starting in January 2025. And with several thousand more in March 2025.
