We all know this party doesn't want such a candidate up for president or any other office if possible. The truth I feel is they'd rather lose and have Republicans in power than allow progressives to steer the party. To me that's because the establishment Democrats aren't that different from Republicans but are drastically different from true progressives. Establishment Democrats are basically diet Republicans who don't pander to evangelicals. In the back pocket of the rich elite and corporations which is why they fight like hell to keep progressives off the ballots.

I guess the question then is if they ever got past this and said ok let's win fukk the donors and corporations would they win? Donald Trump mad a lot of progressive promises and he won. Of course he got in office and kept next to none of them. The part of the general public that supports him has also not held him accountable for this.

Are the Democrats so afraid that if a true progressive was at the head at the party the general public would demand more candidates like them and in a few years the establishment part of the party would be out and powerless? If they don't believe a true progressive can win why can't they try that option and have it fail. At the least then they could say see here's proof it doesn't work. Instead that can't even be a viable option for the party and if somebody fights to get it as a viable option they have to undermine them every step of the way.

Without congress it’s not only unlikely but kinda pointless imo.
:yeshrug:
That's the question. What gains will a progressive candidate get. And what will the makeup of congress be in this hypotheticals.

Everything will be challenged in both congress and in court without a Super majority or at the least both houses.

If things don't get done in year one or two I'd be more interested in whether they'd be re-elected

No because too many in the party would try to undercut him at every corner and weaken him/her as a candidate. One thing you got to give to Republicans is at the end of the day they all fall in line with whoever the candidate is. They fought tooth and nail for Trump not to be the candidate but when he won, 99% of the party fell in line. You don't get that type of cohesion with the Democrats.

so what is a real or true progressive and what views can they hold or can't hold that would lead them to lose real or true status?

It really should be the strategy up and down the ticket but the Dems are too gutless for what it would take to win and make it a winning strategy going forward.
Really the only hope is third party. And yeah that's how bad it is as there is nothing like that on the horizon.

I think so, give people a real option to vote for not just ''i hate trump vote for me''. Dont use fear , use hope to make people want to support you
Republicans for 6 years ran on a message of "I hate Obama vote for me". It worked.

Why can't Democrats do the same with Trump? That's what I find so hypocritical with this country.

Republicans get away with almost everything. Democrats always have to kowtow to conservative & Republican voters. SMH.

Also, Democratic candidates all across the country have run campaigns that is not just anti-Trump. They have run on Medicare for All, renergizing unions, spending more money towards public education and infrastructure, comprehensive immigration reform, raising the minimum wage, proper gun control laws, etc.

What more do people want? God damn.

Here is the truth, the majority of the country is white and most likely racist and white supremacist, whites both men and women supported trump, so republicans running on fear is easy to work because more racists in the country meaning they are likely to get more support. Where as the democrat who supports equality and voting rights would have to be very honest to win.

Middle america still decides the elections in this country and they vote in the midterms while most minorities do not. Its a damn shame.
