This is unfair to alot of the younger kids coming up who discover the GOAT's back catalog. The thing is that Nas's discography post 2001 is extremely strong. I would have no problem excepting someone who became a Nas fan from 02-10 as his musical output has remained phenomenal throughout. Say a fan of Reggae heard Distant Relatives, was impressed, and went back and listened to Nas's discography, now Nas is their favorite rapper. How is this any different than someone who was rocking with Nas since Illmatic? The only advantage would be hindsight. The truth is that Nas as an artist, writer, and MC is MORE than simply a battle with Jay-Z, to assume that any fans of his from 2001 onwards are simply that because of a battle that happened 13 YEARS AGO does a disservice to all that he has accomplished in that time period as well as undermines his continued relevance.

My older cousin had "Live At The BBQ" on vinyl. Summer of '91, I'll never forget hearin' that joint for the first time. That's when I became a Nas fan. I think that was the second grade.

I remember try'na DJ back then, because that's what my cousin did. And I tried to cut that record, mixing it with something else, and fukked his needle all the way up. I was banned from ever touchin' his tables again, but I had become a Nas fan. LOL!!
